Money wasnt the issue with Lembo. There were other parts WFU couldnt agree to, which I am OK not agreeing to.

Running the football program without our own fabricated boogeyman is not the Wake Forest way.

Was it Calloway who told us that Wake has to be very careful with its money...you know, scholarship costs and all? I wonder how he explains Wellman's compensation.

Email from Wellman

Dear Demon Deacons,

Today we will introduce Dave Clawson as our new football coach. Dave is a proven winner and leader and has had great success at every institution he has coached. Dave has rebuilt every program that he has coached and has led each institution to a conference championship. He has developed a national reputation as a builder of programs.

Dave has spent the last five years coaching at Bowling Green State University in Ohio. Last Friday he guided the Falcons to the Mid-American Conference championship when his team beat No. 16 Northern Illinois.
Dave has also served as the head coach at Fordham and the University of Richmond, winning conference championships at both schools and earning numerous Coach of the Year Awards. He was the national coach of the year at both Richmond and Fordham.

Dave’s expectations for our program and players are extremely high. We have much to look forward to with his leadership of our program.
The University will hold a news conference this afternoon at 4:30 on the sixth floor of Deacon Tower followed by a question and answer session for our fans, students, Deacon Club members and members of the community at approximately 5 p.m., also on the sixth floor of Deacon Tower. The question and answer session is open to the public.

We look forward to welcoming Dave, his wife Catherine, and their children Courtney and Eric, to Wake Forest University!
Go Deacs!

"builder of programs"

Be prepared to hear this ad nauseum over the coming year. Wellman loves to latch on to a buzz word and run it into the ground.

I have no idea why we have two threads going on essentially the same subject. Is this now the one to be following today?

Waking up with a good feeling about it. Regardless of what transpired, we seemed to have ended up with a good hire. With that pesky .500 record, he certainly has some things to prove, but he and his staff no doubt are ready to work hard and get to it. They are surely hungry to prove themselves. So glad to have an infusion of life and energy into this moribund program.

Even if the wins don't start piling up yet, it will be a fun spring and fall, just keeping up with recruiting news and seeing the offensive/defensive philosophies emerge. Seems like the future of WF Football is in pretty good hands.

That's always going to be the Wake Forest story. That's why we love mediocrity.

Well, there are limitations to our resources and what is achievable in a short amount of time. We don't love mediocrity, but we do understand reality. And as an academic, I'm sure you appreciate upholding the academic requirements and reputation.

You can uphold academic requirements and reputation without using them to justify mediocrity, which is what Wake Forest does. We don't have to sell our souls to have a strong football program. That's the lie we've been fed for decades to allow Wellman to appear successful without regard to what actually happens on the field/court.
