This maybe Haas moment, Grobe is banging on Wake, what thread is this in?

So....it's reasonable now for WF fans to have the same goals for its football team as Alabama fans have for theirs? This is getting more bizarre by the minute.

Sure. Only if you have the reading comprehension skills of the average Alabama fan.

It is a reasonable goal for our program to win 8-9 games every year. Will this happen? of course not. Will we get to a point where we enter almost every season with a good shot at 8-9 wins? I sure hope so.

so LOWF, bob

you see barriers/obstacles, i see opportunities

our academics should be a plus

so should playing in the acc and having a great campus

such a small minded mentality that we should lower our benchmarks

academics and athletics should be a feedback loop; it works at plenty of schools

Luckily, Clawson seems to understand all of this.

Yeah. I want us to win a natty every year in both sports. I want us to win every game that we play. Why even bother being a fan if you don't? The irony is that the sunshine brigade calls out their strawman of "rooting against the team" while their expectations are basically the same thing.

If Clawson lasts 13 years here, he won't win anymore games than Grobe did.

New brooms sweep very well.

You're entitled to your opinion. But the fact that you're already rooting for our new coach to fail (and yeah, a losing record as the highest paid employee at an ACC school in 13 years is objective failure) is beyond ironic.

I was correcting my post as you responded. Winning 8-9 games every year at WF is not a "reasonable" goal. It's just a wish....which reminds me of something an uncle once told me when I was growing up: "Wish in one hand and shit in the other...and see which one gets full first."

Do you think it is reasonable for programs to attempt to improve?

What are "reasonable" goals both short term and long term for our two revenue sports? In your opinion.

LOL. Do you think there is a scenerio where WF (or Vanderbilt) can "win 8-9 games every year and go to a BCS bowl game a couple of times a decade", Townie?

If your answer is "yes", it takes one hell of a nerve to say that my opinion on sports doesn't hold water. LOL......a million times.

Get a time machine, don't let Carl Tacy leave, and then we roll in championships!

I talked to my friends who played for grobe, and the consensus among them was Indoor Practice Facility, Locker Room at Stadium upgrade, and Weight Room upgrade. FYI.

Our attainable goal every year should be to beat our equals. Beat Duke, BC, 'Cuse and State. Then 3 or 4 of our OOC, and we'll be were we always hope to be, a consistent Bowler. An occasional upset of one of the tougher teams (Clemson, F$U, ND, etc). This is reasonable and do-able. We don't have to suck, and we ain't winning the Natty.

??? Just repeating what I was told, but I do understand (somewhat) what he was saying in regards to academic support and a level playing field. Not that his statements justify the last 5 years, because they don't. Coaching at Wake is more difficult than coaching at UNC , State, dook, etc for a lot of reasons, but Grobe proved Wake could compete and he was being paid well to win. I do know that many coaches (head and assistant) at Wake have said Wake Forest University is our biggest enemy...like we operate under our own personal sanctions.

Very good post, KVegas. You are right, we have been basically imposing sanctions on ourselves and making our own task in the ACC a lot more difficult than it already is. And no, I am not a win at all costs fan. I've been around for decades, no win at all costs fan will stay with Wake for more than 10 minutes. If we want winning athletic programs we need commitment and accountability from our administration not complacency and empty drivel about "historic competitiveness."

Indoor practice facility in NC seems like a huge waste of money. Do similar schools in NC have this? I.e. duke, UNC, ncsu. (Serious question, have no idea).

UNC does. Don't know about the other 2.

UNC has had one for about 12 years, and I understand Duke recently built one. NCSU is finalizing plans for one now. No frills, $14 million price tag. Hope you guys have your checkbook handy.

which one of us won the megamillions? we all promised that we'd build a. indoor practice facility and b. buy out Buzz's contract. QUIT BUYING LAMBOS, YOU STINGY BASTARD

seriously, this is no time to go Wolf of Wall Street on us.

Just don't get why Jim didn't try to personally shake down every alum after 2006. I kinda wish he had been more vocal if this is how he feels. "If you guys want this to continue, you need to pull put your wallets."

In rerospect, there would've been no better time for a massive football capital campaign.

I lived in new england for 6 years and it was necessary or none of the sports teams could practice. But in NC it just seems foolish. Is it a building or a bubble type thing?

The indoor facility in the South is more about showing off for idiot 17 year old kids than anything else. But if that's what it takes, get it done Ron.

Seems to me your only goal each and every year should be to win your division and play in the ACC Championship game, if you do this twice a decade everything else will take care of itself.

Concerning the indoor practice facility, the player weight room and the locker rooms in Bridger are much bigger (and more realistic) targets for upgrades from what I understand. No reason why we shouldn't be able to scrap together enough money to fix up that ish.
