Debate

Bachman just proved she doesn't understand the job of the POTUS. It is the POTUS job to go into a state to fight laws the state passes if they are unconsotistutional.

Call me silly, but I think providing vision and leadership to a country is more important than nitpicking what state is doing what. That's not leading - it's micro-managing and is just going to piss the states off.

the headline among chattering types is that pawlenty backed down to Romney, and in particular backed down from criticism made just a day earlier.

in fact, no one really went after wmr. i suspect that will change as we move forward, but it's particularly important to tp

Pawlenty was visibly intimidated by Romney.

He formed his PAC and is in the process of moving to FL. I read a local piece (might have been culled from national news, don't know) that said if Huntsman runs he might be putting his eggs in the FL basket and essentially forgoing IA, NH, since he won't fare well, plus he can't hold the western states against Romney.

Course, the focused on FL strategy didn't exactly turn out well for Giuliani.

Isn't Huntsman a Utah guy? Would seem like he'd at least have a puncher's chance.

Surely Paawlenty doesn't think he's veep material, right?

Huntsman has a big name recognition problem, but is very popular inside the beltway. It's just a matter of getting his name out there. Utah and some of the bordering states are the only ones where people know his name.

Huntsman will apparently announce a week from today, in New Jersey. (statue of liberty visual)

i don't think that is likely, in the event romney gets the nomination.

i chalk it up more to jitters and uncertainty and newness to this stage.

I hope so, but with Palin last year, anything is possible.

I wish I knew more about Huntsman. I will have to do some research.

Did Pawlenty lose all chances last night when John King asked hmi about Obamneycare. King asked him directly why it was OK to call it that on Fox but not last night.

It showed great weakness.

It has been getting A LOT of play in the media. The only possible explanation that makes any sense to me is Pawlenty is fairly new to the scene and Romney is well liked in NH. Pawlenty may have felt it was wise to not come across as a super negative jerk at his first big public appearance by bashing a candidate that the "locals" like. The other angle could be his plans to be a running mate for Romney, so not trying to attack him too much. Not sure but it was there on a silver platter and he passed on it.

it was an inexperienced candidate (at this level) and an inexperienced campaign manager getting their message signals crossed.

then tp sort of froze up there.

not good, and playing really poorly among beltway types. but early enough that tp has time to get past it. (whether he is a strong enough candidate to do so is obviously a different question)

King gave him two or three chances. Pawlenty swung and missed.
