NFL Black Monday Thread

According to CBS sports reporter Jason La Canfora, the Browns want to interview Gus Malzahn and James Franklin and are expected to hire Jim Schwartz as defensive coordinator.


I guess the Browns don't want their new coach to pick his own staff.
 
For some reason I don't see Gus being a quality nfl coach.

Lol yeah right Schwartz doesn't respect anyone let alone a "college coach".
 
Will be interesting to see what the Bucs do with Revis now that Lovie is the coach. Lovie is a Tampa 2 guy and $16M is way too much for a CB in that scheme.
 
$16M is too much for just about anybody in any scheme.

The Bucs have a ton of personnel decisions to make across the board. They clearly have some talent, but is it the talent they need and does it work for what Smith, Tedford, and Marinelli want to do?

Imagining LaVonte David in a Lovie Smith / Rod Marinelli-coached defense is downright frightening.

That's true but it can be at least justified if Revis is following the other teams best WR around and shutting him down. Him playing a short zone in the Tampa 2 is a complete waste for that money.

Per @BovadaLV, the next #Redskins coach: Whisenhunt 3/1, Fewell 4/1, McDermott 4/1, Bevell 5/1, Jay Gruden 5/1, Zimmer 5/1, Roman 10/1.

Wisenhunt would be a good hire (for any HC job) IMO.

Browns are scheduled to interview Cardinals DC Todd Bowles for their HC job Friday. Bowles also expected to meet next week with Vikings.

Clearly he caught a lot of undeserved flack for his opinions, but two points:
1. It's hard to say any NFL player who isn't a legit star got cut for off the field reasons, especially a specialist.
2. Any employee who repeatedly goes against the wishes of his bosses puts himself at the risk of getting let go.

I think these are both right. The big story here isn't that Chris Kluwe got cut, possibly for his ideology. The big story is that Mike Pfeifer is a colossal bigot.
 
Agreed, it'll be interesting to see what (if anything) the Vikings decide to do about Priefer.

Also, I don't really follow the NFL, so I generally assume players and coaches kind of disappear after they leave the Eagles. Nice to see Sean McDermott doing well. It seemed like he got screwed a bit over his inability to be Jim Johnson.
