Good point. Orr is the kind of fan who would be yelling at the coaches, the refs, and the other teams players during his kid's football/basketball game.

Exactly. Fists fly in pick up games in the heat of the moment over nothing, especially when a dude is salty at losing. Not much to explain about Smart losing it for a split second right after they lost the game for sure. And no surprise Orr is embarrassed at being in a national story about taunting a college basketball player. There is nothing odd going on.

Except Smart knew his reaction was inappropriate and lied about the confrontation to make Orr look worse. If you're Orr, wouldn't you be pissed as hell that Smart told people you made racist comments? Is there anything worse that a white man can say in 2014 to a black athlete? NC State students yelled we killed your grandfather to CP, and it got way less coverage than Riley Cooper's statement.

I agree with Magic. Why is Orr "suspending" himself for the rest of the year? Just out of embarrassment? If I'm attacked for calling a player a piece of crap, I'm pissed that (a) I was assaulted and (b) that a well-known public figure damaged my name to justify his behavior.

Smart may have thought he heard the n-word during the confrontation or maybe he did hear the n-word from somewhere else in the crowd. The fact of the matter is he never publicly accused Orr of racism. And you guys act like Orr is making some huge sacrifice not going to anymore home games this year. It's 3 damn games. He was in a national news story for getting into a confrontation with a 20 year old.

didn't read entire thread, but this reminds me of Carson Derosier when the State fan basicaly tackled him. whatever happened to that kid....anything?

Shame that Smart is being lumped in with people like Metta World Peace....

replace state with clemson and derosiers with mcfarland

Given the circumstances, do you think Smart would have reacted the same if his team was winning?

No.

Like I said earlier, I would have said the same thing if I was Smart and put myself in that position. Whether or not it was true.

Why would you LIE?

Wonder if Orr is just mimicking what the A&M player is doing. A previous poster said Orr was making monkey gestures here. I don't see that.

Yeah, Smart is out 3 games and Orr is missing 3 games. Orr's "self-imposed" suspension is nothing. Of course that guy isn't going on the road for awhile.

Hate it for Smart...maybe this will cause him to slip down to Bobcat territory.

Not to go all #ZapruderFilm on this thing but I too doubt that "a piece of crap" was the only thing Orr said to Smart. Just telling someone "you piece of crap!" or "you're a piece of crap" is kind of an awkward phrasing of trash talk to say to someone as a standalone thought; seems a lot more likely that it was preceded by something, like "Go [take a hike / fly a kite / back to Africa], you piece of crap." IOW, I'd guess that Orr finished whatever he said to Smart with 'piece of crap,' but I doubt that was the entirety of it.

Also, I find comparisons to section-wide chants or cheers pretty inapposite. It's a lot different for an entire group of students to chant some banal phrase over and over again to a player who's standing on the court than it is for one dude to look directly in a player's face from 3 feet away and call him a directed, pointed insult when said player is in the stands (i.e., the fan area). The latter case to me is less defensible from the fan's perspective, since Orr is subconsciously taking advantage of the "fan shield" we all take for granted we have whenever we go to a sporting event (i.e., the I can say whatever the eff I want because everyone knows players aren't supposed to confront fans justification).

I couldn't get the whole sequence into the GIF, but he makes some hand gesture before sticking out his tongue. It looked like he was calling for an offensive foul.

Smart took the bait. He's guilty of assault whether racial comments were made or not.

new reports indicate he called smart a "jive ass turkey".

Orr must watch Sanford & Son.

Who in the hell says that in 2014?

If you watch the video, the blonde lady wearing glasses (after she finishes pointing) turns around and says to the people around them "he didn't say anything that bad!"

Smart was wrong. Orr was wrong. And I am glad JJ Redick never climbed up a few rows in the stands and kicked my ass for the stuff I yelled at him, because he would have been justified.
