Willing to take on a few Hoops Bets @ 17.5

Saying there was no chance that [Redacted] would be fired in under three years was hardly being a "supporter". I gave reasons why this wouldn't happen. I was being a realist.

I set very specific targets that had to met during Year 3. I stated early on that if [Redacted] didn't get to 18 wins last season that he should be fired within 24 hours of the end of the season and if he wasn't Wellman should be fired the next day. After the goal wasn't met, I posted he had to go and so did Wellman for not firing him,

Yeah, but during the first two years you said constantly that Bz was a far superior coach than Dino and blamed BuzzOuters for the personal attacks on him before turning on him after year 3.

RJ, let's be honest. You know too much about basketball to really believe this. We had fired Dino after 3 years with a good record but the basketball strategy and post-season success left much to be desired. There was no way Wellman could have then fired another coach with 3 years who was essentially working with the previous coach's players the first 2 years. Wake would have been a completely shitty destination for a new coach at that point: 1) Fired a coach with a good record in 3 years; 2) Fired a coach trying to mesh with new program in 3 years. Any coach would have looked at that and questioned whether making a move to Wake made sense. If things continue the way they are going now in Year 4, Buzz will likely resign and there will be no debate about whether he was given a chance.

Those were the exact reasons i gave as why [Redacted] couldn't be fired before the end of the third year.

And you're right. I just don't think you give Dino and Buzz each only 3 years.

Which is exactly what I said. You can't go back-to-back like that.

Dino was an bad HC, but a very good Assistant coach.

As a HC they both sucked. As a game coach, Dino really sucked. Rambo could have gotten those teams deep into The Dance.

I said personal attacks at that point were useless as they would have no impact. Further, I said it would only go to drive the program deeper into a hole. I was proven correct.

Sounds like we agree on both accounts. Head on over to the New Coach Thread. I'd like to get your thoughts on White, Lonergan, and a flyer on Howland.

Honestly, at this point, I think that PH is more likely to win his bet than Jaybone is to win the rest of the bets.

The way we played last night (especially the free throws), shows that our ineptitude has gotten into our heads. I don't think we will lose out, but I think its more likely that we do that or only win one more game (BC) than it is that we win 4 more.

I still think we find a way to scratch out at least 2/3 of our poopy home games (FSU / Clemson / BC), but even with that we'd be 2 short of 18 wins.

I could actually seeing us winning @ Miami simply because their track record at home in ACC play has been about as bad as can be: 0-6 (!), including losses to VT, FSU and NC State, and with 60 points vs. VT being the highest scoring output they've had at home in conference play all year. That's...incredible.

Miami at home v. Us on the road.

The resistible force meets the movable object.

Someone is going to win the game 2-0 when a player accidentally tips a missed shot into the other team's goal. Since we rarely get our hands on a missed shot, I like our chances...

A loss to FSU would be the dagger for jay.

Nice try. This shit pile is squarely on Bz and the man who hired him. Anything fans did or did not do had a negligible impact compared to Bz himself. It was a bad hire from day one. Nothing more to say than that. Bz never had any shot at being successful. Giving him a chance was just a waste of time.

If we would have fired Bzdleik after Year One, we would have been paying THREE coaches the next year. The third one would have had to have been a total scrub.

Plus what decent coach would take a job from which two coaches had been fired in two years? Again the answer no self-respecting coach would take such a job.

After Year Two, we'd still have been paying two coaches for the next two years and the AD would have had an incredibly difficult time convincing a good coach to take the job.

I realize you know soooooooo much about how these things work, but this is the reality.

The constant personal attacks get used by opponents to recruit against us. Look at the results.

I need a specific example.
Not of poor recruiting- of personal attacks being used against us in recruiting.
