John Wolford

WHo knows how good Wolford is as a QB..Unless he is Michael Vick he can't do anything with those blobs we call an offensive line.

The announcers actually said they felt sorry for him.. LOWF!

Price ran for his life for four years. Wolford better get used to it.

He hold onto the ball wayyyy too long. Several sacks were the result of poor decisions.

Yes. Get rid of the ball. Don't step into the rush. Don't force throws. These are things I need to see before I believe in Wolford.

In Wolford's defense, I tend to believe our receivers aren't getting open and to his credit he wants to make a play. If Wolford threw the ball away quickly upon not finding a target, he'd be throwing most of his passes away. With more experience I look for him to play better, but we really have very few options on O and I'm sure if we made a move to have quicker patterns people would complain that we're not going downfield enough. Sometimes your team just sucks. Blame Grobe for the lack of talent and development.

i have little doubt that if Wolford was the UL QB , that we would have ended up with more than 4 sacks.

There's not much downside here. Fewer sacks, fewer picks, fewer 4 yard passes on the 3rd and 8.

Stepping into the throw often requires stepping into the rush if it is right up the middle or anywhere if the line is as bad as ours.

Several times he stepped backwards or turned around into the rush. He was trying to escape but went the wrong way.

I mean, since our O-Line doesn't block it often doesn't look like there is a right or a wrong way. When he is not sacked outright, he usually has two defenders rushing, often unimpeded, at him in both directions. With a line as bad as ours is and raw receivers, it has to be tough to even get into a rhythm, let alone make plays.

Dude, EVERY offensive weakness is the fault of the quarterback. The guy is clearly unable to walk on water as a true freshman, so we should definitely panic and either write off the next three years or play Cameron.

I just want to see him improve on decision making in the Red Zone. That's something he can control, even with our terrible O-Line. We aren't good enough against ANY team to give away points and poor throws have taken away at least four chances at points so far this season, that I know of. I love the kid and think he's going to be a good one for us, just needs to improve game by game this year.

Regardless of what's causing it, he is settling into the reputation of being a turnover machine.

Got to nip that in the bud while still a freshman.

I know there are a lot of tipped balls, hits while throwing etc., but at some point as these interceptions pile up...

For the record, I think he looks really promising and is doing yeoman's work back there considering he's playing behind this offensive line, but he has simply got to stop giving the ball away.

FWIW, John Wolford's uncle is former NFL 1st round pick and OT for the Bills, during their glory years, Will Wolford. Both Will Wolford and John's dad, Bob, are 6'5". Would be nice if John could grow a couple more inches (John is generously listed at 6-1) over the next couple of years as a lot of his picks have come on tipped balls.

Another meaningless tidbit, both John Wolford and Riley Skinner are from J'ville, and their dads were KA's at Vanderbilt. Skinner's dad played baseball at Vandy. Wolford's dad was a very good HS basketball player from KY, but not sure if he ever played at Vandy.

Speaking of KAs, my only positive memory of those guys during my time at Wake was when their lounge caught fire. They didn't react well when the Theta Chis showed up with marshmallows and attempted to roast them on the flames. No sense of humor, I tell you.

Yeah he needs to stop making those receivers drop passes...

I feel bad for him. Riley had some talent to work with but Wolford has no playmakers to hand off or throw to and the line is young up the middle . He had a bad game but was facing a good defense and a lot of heat . He will make better decisions with time . He does appear to be more of a Brett Favre type than a Riley Skinner. He takes some chances because he believes he can make the throws . The interception on the toss to EJ Scott was bizarre . Why was a defensive player in our backfield so quickly ?
