Triad restaurant comings, goings and recs

Finally a Zaxby's (almost) in Winston! One opened up by Walmart on University

Had PDQ's tonight - first night opened, I placed my order and when they rung it up (about $16 for two) they told me tonight was free - apparently a staff training/dry run deal. They won't start charging until the officially open Sunday, she said. Not sure if they're doing the same tomorrow.

We really like it, kind of a cut above Zax.

Went to Pdq's today the food was free before 2:30. I have to agree Pdq >Zax and the fries were awesome and they have homemade sauces to die for.

I went to PDQ tonight. Staff was really friendly and I got to eavesdrop as they told another family all of the restaurant background.. I enjoyed what I got, too. I love a condiment so I look forward to trying all of their sauces.

I went Sunday and it was great.

It will be interesting to see if the atmosphere is still Disney-like in ~6 months.

Thompson, the former executive chef at Marisol, won last year’s Fire in the Triad competition, the area’s premier cooking showdown. And though he left Marisol in September, Thompson said it will likely be two years before his new restaurant comes to fruition.
“We’re not in a real big hurry,” he said. “We’re kind of trying to time it with a lot of the growth downtown.”

How the hell do you do that?

posted on the CT, but will post here, too:
Wife and I are thinking of taking a long weekend in April to tour some NC wineries and hit up some barbecue spots. We have 4 nights...thinking of staying near Lexington (maybe at the HI Express near Childress) for two nights, then need a second for two nights. We've been to Shelton, Raylen, and Hanover Park in NC. What other ones are recommended?

Also, any good nice restaurants around the wine country?

Sticks and Stones has a 16 tap Foothills takeover this week. Plus, they'll be tapping a cask of white chocolate raspberry People's Porter tonight.

A dueling piano bar is opening in downtown gso?

DEAR GOD THAT'S PLAMA'S MUSIC

movin' out beings to play

Second visit to the Honey Pot downtown Winston was great. Enjoyed grit puppies, shrimp toast, and duck breast with green curry, coconut rice, and broccoli. The rest of our party got the fried pullet leg, which I was wary of for $20, but it's two whole leg/thighs with collards and mac & cheese. We all left happy.

I need a solid recommendation. I got engaged a few weeks ago, and my girl is from Mt. Airy so we will be getting married up there. What I need is a place in that area for a rehearsal dinner. Other than Shelton Vineyard, I have no clue where would fit what we're looking for, without making everyone drive to Winston.
