'Duck Dynasty's' Phil Robertson suspended for comments about gays

“I’ll make a bet with you,” Robertson said. “Two guys break into an atheist’s home. He has a little atheist wife and two little atheist daughters. Two guys break into his home and tie him up in a chair and gag him. And then they take his two daughters in front of him and rape both of them and then shoot them and they take his wife and then decapitate her head off in front of him. And then they can look at him and say, ‘Isn’t it great that I don’t have to worry about being judged? Isn’t it great that there’s nothing wrong with this? There’s no right or wrong, now is it dude?’”

Robertson kept going: “Then you take a sharp knife and take his manhood and hold it in front of him and say, ‘Wouldn’t it be something if this [sic] was something wrong with this? But you’re the one who says there is no God, there’s no right, there’s no wrong, so we’re just having fun. We’re sick in the head, have a nice day.’”

“If it happened to them,” Robertson continued, “they probably would say, ‘something about this just ain’t right.”

There seems to be some fallacies present there where atheism = rejection of all moral codes of any kind including basic tenets of human decency

sounds like the only thing keeping Phil from murder raping everyone's wife and daughters is are hotly contested sets of ancient documents

He talked about cutting dicks off. You and Phil have something in common. Great minds think alike.

Silly me, it didn't even occur to me that there could be such a thing as right or wrong without some dude with white hair and a beard up in the clouds telling me what's what.

Yep. If somebody needs a God to explain to them that raping two little girls and then killing those girls before raping and decapitating the wife in front of the father/husband before they cut off his penis is "wrong" -- then that person is just insane.

I don't know why religious fanatics go to such absurd links to explain their faith. It is beyond absurd.

Yet pretty much the entirety of human history (both past and current) either disagrees with you, or has major incidents of complete cultural insanity. I'm not a religious person at all, but to think that the world doesn't benefit from some form of religion to guide its moral compass is just stupid. And obviously that can be twisted the opposite way if the religion encourages those things, but what is crystal clear from thousands of years of atrocities is that there is not a naturally-instilled univeral code of morality across humanity.

Although you and I disagree on religion and its benefits, you are correct here. Phil makes a ridiculous assumption that people without religious beliefs are animals without morality. That's asinine.

So many different issues to unpack in 2&2's post.

I guess we should alert the respective professions and areas who have spent their entire lives studying aspects like cultural relativism and humanity that there's a crystal clear answer so they can stop what they're doing.

Or, we could alert them to DV7's innate, universal moral code so they can stop what they are doing.

I'm pretty much amoral and as everyone here certainly knows by now, am an atheist and so maybe I'm biased but I derive my "right and wrong" from the golden rule. Would I want someone to kill me? No so I don't invade others autonomy and right to coexist by killing them.

WTF? So you are an atheist who bases his "right and wrong" from a rule clearly rooted in religion, but downplays the importance of religion. You can't make this shit up.

I saw an interesting article the other day about how vampire bats will die if they don't drink blood for more than two days. Other bats will regurgitate their own harvested blood to help their buddies out. I wonder what type of bat religion taught them to be so altruistic.
