General Election Thread: Two Weeks Out

I believe they are referred to as Canadian Free Health Care Geese. Please correct me if wrong, eh?

I didn't say "all the birds". But I'm cool with exterminating the cat population, especially given that I'm allergic, if you let us exterminate all the Canadian geese in the Cville area. They shit all over my golf course and are nasty mean. We of course appreciate the egrets, blue herons, redwing blackbirds, cardinals and occasional gold finches. But the geese suck.

They love coming in off the lake and crapping in my backyard. We have resorted to using slingshots on them since we can't "legally" shoot them.

I don't have the IQ capacity to defend or criticize this.

I didn't say you had a low IQ. The implication was you were smart enough and self-aware enough to know you were being disingenuous. There are already more than enough Hillshills on here who do nothing but argue in an insincere and dishonest fashion. My hope is that you won't emulate them. But I realize the pressure to feel like "one of the crowd" can be too much for some.

Bubba was in Utah yesterday, Kaine was in TX and LA for two days this week, and HRC was in NE last week. Hillary currently has leads outside of the margin of error equalling 347 EVs (2012 Obama map plus NC). Have slim leads in AZ and GA, which would work strategically for the future.

Other than appearing with Warren Buffett in NE, can't see any reason to use heavy hitters in TX, UT, or LA other than for fundraisers. Go hard after AZ and GA instead. If they really want to run up the EV score, MO and SC (!) are within the MOE.

Prep Hillary for the debates and use her at fundraisers. Just let Trump keep babbling incoherently and calmly repond after his latest rant. Let the GOP claim the Emperor is wearing fine new clothes. Fuck Dean and the four corners, but that's the right move now.

GOP base was convinced some Tea Party clown was going to knock off Ryan in a primary. Lost by 68. GOP absolutely deserves Trump, but sucks major ass for the country.

I think the Libertarian Party is really the legitimate opposition to the Democratic Party. They present a coherent political philosophy and have rational strategies for implementing that philosophy. I personally disagree with most of their solutions to the countries problems but that's my opinion. The Chrisitan Conservative agenda is not a viable philosophy within American governance because so much of what they want to achieve through legislation is not constitutional and requires violating the freedoms of some segment of society. The GOP saw an opportunity to gain a lot of voters by embracing the Christian Right and giving them the hope that they could legislate their faith, but that is a deadend governance strategy; that stuff needs to be accomplished in the churches and in the streets, not via congress. Trump really is the culmination of a long line of insane Republican candidates (eg Allan Keyes, Hermain Cain...) floated in an effort to keep the crazies on the far right invested in the party but this time he managed to win the nomination. I foresee a lot of north east republicans and western republicans embracing the libertarian movement hereafter leaving southern conservatives with the vestiges of the dysfunctional Republican Party.

Whatever. It was not a disingenuous post. The primary thing that I don't like about Clinton is that she talks about our problems in the right way but her proposed solutions are weak or don't go far enough. Her climate change website misses the boat entirely on the problems we are already facing and so it reads to me like pandering and lip service. So, I wrote a post pointing this out and criticizing her. I did not, as you say, add a circle jerk pleasing criticism of Trump, I simply noted that he is a climate change denier, which he is, it's a fact and I pointed it out. You said before that that any critical post of Clinton leads people around here to "flip the fuck out." I criticized her and it didn't happen. I am not trying to be one of the crowd, that has never really been my thing, I watch and study birds because I really don't like people, birds never judge me.

There is plenty to criticize about Hillary, she is an incredibly weak candidate who somehow "deserved" the nomination. Sadly she is the only candidate left that seems to have a liberal philosophy. You spam the boards with post after post from questionable news sources about her having seizures or how she is on the take from rich Saudi donors, and that leads people to finding your legitimate criticisms un-credible. Your are only undermining your own, otherwise legitimate, position and I would honestly much rather have a serious conversation about her ideas than throw a bunch of shit at the wall and see what sticks.

So the "Obama founded ISIS" thing was another joke, but CNN didn't get it. TURN ON YOUR SARCASM METERS SHEEPLE.

I think I Know who birdman is in real life (not certain, but fairly sure), and he is extremely down to earth, thoughtful, and pretty much the opposite of someone who would shill for such a terrible candidate as Hillary. He pretty much summed it up. He doesn't have an option that is worth voting for, but Hillary is the closest thing he has, so he will reluctantly pull the lever. For someone focused on the environment/climate change as a primary vote driver, this is a very understandable position. Hillary is pretty far right for a democrat when it comes to climate, and Trump is simply unacceptable. Johnson/Weld are also very non-interventionist as would be assumed with a libertarian ticket. I can imagine that would be frustrating for someone like birdman.

Really good post. I agree 100%.

I'm surprised you would agree with his stance on the Christian Right even though I know you've been critical of its current form.

Personally would have preferred Uncle Joe/Gillibrand vs Daniels/Gates vs Weld/Johnson, but we ended up with significantly worse choices. W won with 271 EVs and acted he had a mandate. Barring a suitcase nuke blowing up in Philly or Wikileaks uncovering emails that CGI kidnapped and raised child sex slaves for Bubba's and HRC's personal use, Hillary wins by high single digits and 350+ EVs.

GOP really needs to get their shit together. Future 2018 FL GOP Governor nominee Huckabee introduced Trump in Orlando. Trump, Pence, Huckabee, Cruz, McCrory, Christie, Newt, and Rudy aren't the future of the GOP. Baker, Daniels, Gates, Portman, Condi, Huntsman, Haley, or Martinez should be, but the current base still hates them.
