Flynn named National Security Advisor

Back to Flynn -- great dude:

http://www.cnn.com/2016/11/18/politics/kfile-flynn-tweets/index.html

Flynn urged his followers to follow Cernovich, tweeting in October, "Follow Mike @Cernovich He has a terrific book, Gorilla Mindset. Well worth the read. @realDonaldTrump will win on 8 NOV!!!"

Cernovich once wrote in a since-deleted tweet: "Have you guys ever tried 'raping' a girl without using force? Try it. It's basically impossible. Date rape does not exist."
Last February, Cernovich tweeted: "Not being a slut is the only proven way to avoid AIDS. If you love black women, slut shame them."

In July Cernovich tweeted, "The 'alt-right' hasn't killed anyone, but #BlackLivesMatter regularly slaughters the innocent. Know the real threat. Think! #Dallas"

In late October, Flynn linked to a Cernovich story titled "How to Save Twitter," where he argued harassment wasn't a big issue on Twitter and said "the company is being run by rabid SJWs [social justice warriors] who don't care about users." The article included a tweet of Cernovich calling a woman raising awareness about the herpes virus "ugly and has herpes."

Flynn wrote of the story, "I totally agree...Citizen journalism is the new future for truth because truth fears no questions. @Cernovich @IngrahamAngle #TruthMatters."
In August, Flynn retweeted a Breitbart article by alt-right commentator Milo Yiannopoulos, who was banned from Twitter earlier this year, titled "Hillary Clinton Is About To Embarass(sic) Herself On The Alt-Right."

On three occasions, Flynn tagged in his tweets Jared Wyland, an alt-right, anti-Semitic commentator who has tweeted about the "Liberal Jewish media." Flynn also shared some of Wyland's tweets that linked to videos, including one Wyland tweeted with the message, "MUST WATCH: Ex-Muslim schools Obama on how #ISIS is practicing Islam to the letter Choose Reality America!"Flynn shared the video with his own comment, writing, "Brother Rashid is worth listening to for 8:47. Most powerful message I've heard in a long time."

Days before the election, Flynn tweeted a false story claiming the NYPD had found evidence on Anthony Weiner's laptop "to put Hillary (Clinton) and her crew away for life."
In late October, Flynn retweeted a false claim that United Nations Agenda 21, a sustainable development program, would create a one world church where Christianity was prohibited and that choosing nationalism was the only way to stop Clinton.

In July, Flynn linked to a tweet that falsely claimed Clinton was "wearing hijab in solidarity with islamic terrorists." The picture was from a 2009 trip Clinton took to Pakistan as secretary of state, in which she donned a head covering during a visit to a mosque as a diplomatic courtesy.

"This is not showing respect. This is showing disrespect for American Values and Principles. #NeverHillary," Flynn wrote in his link to the tweet.

In another instance, he linked to a LifeZette article questioning if an Iranian scientist was executed recently because he was exposed on Clinton's private email server While Clinton advisers did discuss the scientist over email in July 2010, Clinton also publicly commented on the case of Shahram Amiri at the time, and The New York Times reported at the time that he was a CIA informant.

He hasn't done a Robert Byrd "holy shit, I'm so sorry, that was awful" statement. He is who he is and he is unapologetic. We all know a small, seemingly sweet, old, white man in our own lives that is racist as fuck. That's Jeff Sessions.

I don't think Sessions should be AG, but don't you think the magnitude of what Byrd had to apologize for is just a wee bit bigger than Sessions' body of racist work?

MSM at it again I see

Having finally read up on him (I don't keep myself as up to date on the outrage du jour that some of you do), I don't think a person who couldn't be confirmed for a lesser position in the Justice apparatus should be then nominated and confirmed for the lead position in said organization.

That said, I hope the opposition has instances of racist behavior from more recently than 30 years ago if they hope to stop his confirmation.

Sessions is more like Paula Deen than Harriet Miers, but for sure he's not the best and brightest conservative mind for AG. He's not even the sharpest 'Pub on the Judiciary Committee (Cruz, Mike Lee, John Cornyn). Kris Kobach is also brighter. Roy Moore would have been significantly worse. Sessions will be confirmed with well below 60 votes from his own peers and he'll catch a lot of (deserved) shit during confirmation hearings.

Trump didn't turn down Colin Powell or Bob Gates in favor of Chachi and Duck Dynasty at the convention, but he doesn't have to settle for toady hacks in his cabinet. Mitt, Haley, Ayotte, and Corker would be better governing choices than some of his chucklehead cronies. Trump beat a shitty candidate, but still may not have won if he had stuck it out with Lewandowski or Manafort instead of Conway.

I don't keep a scale of racism so I don't know.

Wrong is wrong. And any racism is wrong and should be renounced unequivocally.

Here's what Colin Powell said about Flynn:

"Flynn has been advising Trump and is a close confidant of the Republican nominee. Powell was discussing Flynn, who served as the director of the Defense Intelligence Agency for two years under president Obama with Powell’s son, former FCC chairman Michael Powell. The two Powells were discussing Flynn’s speech to the Republican National Convention, where he led a chant of “lock her up” about Hillary Clinton.
“I spoke at DIA last month,” Powell wrote in a July 19 email exchange with his son. “Flynn got fired as head of DIA. His replacement is a black Marine 3-star. I asked why Flynn got fired. Abusive with staff, didn’t listen, worked against policy, bad management, etc. He has been and was right-wing nutty every [sic] since. I watched about five minutes on line of his talked [sic] and switched off.”

Remember when Colin Powell was respected by Republicans?

What's the racism threshold?

Racism is racism and should be a disqualifying factor in the Sessions nomination. No argument there. I don't think anyone with a demonstrable history of racist behavior should be a part of our justice apparatus. Picking a man who gives even a whiff of potential impropriety with regards to civil rights is a tremendously stupid idea at any time, and even more so lately. It's a completely tone deaf nomination.

However, I find a comparison between a person who made "jokes" about the KKK (not that that's all Sessions did) and someone who actually was a member and founded a chapter of it, to be an interesting case study on the relative "scale" of racism. In the context of a government appointment, specifically to the justice department, there absolutely should be no scale. In the general context I personally find the actions of Byrd to be more reprehensible than the actions of Sessions. But at least Byrd recognized his mistakes and worked to make amends.

None of that is extreme relative to our current climate. Obama did not reel back in the surveillance state, so there is no reason to expect that to change under trump. It's ok for a GOP POTUS to appoint RW folks. Attacking every appointment is silly, and it weakens the message when real criticisms are necessary.

Good post.

Every appointment should absolutely be scrutinized thoroughly. That goes for both sides. It's healthy. Weakens the message? This is how it is supposed to go.

Crying wolf every time you see a sheep dog weakens the message. That is what the tea party does.

This the national security advisor, not the naming of a bridge or park. This guy should be put through heavy scrutiny.

If he can't take it, GTFO of consideration.

Wasn't Flynn appointed by Obama just 4 years ago? And some Democrats are attacking his appointment now because he's a Trump nominee? Has he changed so drastically or did Democrats not care to thoroughly vet him before?

His job title changed since then, but you knew that, right?

I understand that. But he was previously installed as the highest ranking intelligence officer by President Obama. It's not like he was in some minimal position. There are lifelong right wing nominees being put out there and we have democrats bitching about someone who was one of their own just 2 years ago. This is probably as close to a moderate appointment as you'll get with a Republican president like Trump. Not the guy to fight. Save that for people like Sessions. You can't reasonably fight every appointment.
