Omnibus Bowl Projections Thread - Belk Bowl

Bama hasn't done shit all year and it will show in the playoff. All three are bad match-ups for them, but Clemson is probably the worst.

...Were people punishing Clemson for a similarish win over State? Don't think so...

Recall that was because Kelly Bryant was knocked out of the game in second quarter and they went on to lose by a FG.

ETA: Sorry, read it too fast, thought you were referring to loss at Cuse

ETA 2: Not sure if Clemson is the best comparison. They'd already beaten 2 top 15 teams, UL in a blowout and VT by 2 TDs on the road before they played State.

Sure that was terrible. But, Ohio St was 2-1 against top 10 teams. And has a conf championship. Bama was 0-1. Those should easily outweigh one bad loss, given the committee's published criteria for selection.

Those two teams they beat are garbage.

Immaterial who made it as the fourth seed. Clemson would knock out either.

I'm just happy all those "THE Ohio State University" guys are silenced.

State playing Arizona State in the Sun.

Lol, Pack.

This bowl looks pretty good on the surface with over 80 years of tradition. Shame the tie-in is for conferences on opposite coasts. I guess with bowls popping up all over the place over the last couple of decades a trip to the desert is the last place fans want to be. Players would enjoy it regardless I imagine.

I'd be pretty salty if I was a state fan. This is their best season since what...2002? And they get stuck in El Paso. Apparently Yow tweeted out a loaded statement. I'm loving their meltdown hahahah.

I'm not saying their resumes are similar, I'm just pointing out the fallacy of attempting to portray a road win over a top 25 team as anything other than a good thing.

I like living in a world where losing 55-24 to Iowa has consequences

The SEC outside of 3 teams is absolute garbage.

Meanwhile the Big Ten is just garbage.

Honest question -- what was the Big Ten's best non-conference win? Iowa @ Iowa State? Maryland @ Texas? Impressive stuff

Punishment to me would mean dropping in the rankings, which is obviously not fair and shouldn't happen. Alabama's win against Miss St was a good thing but not impressive.

I'd like to live in a world where a team's chance to make the playoff is made available by winning a conference title first and foremost. I don't like living in a world where teams like Alabama this year or OSU Last year back into the playoff without that accomplishment.

To be fair, if a playoff spot is in question for a conference title winner with a weak resume, I think it would be fine to let in a team with a resume that's so unbelievably and unquestionably better by comparison that leaving that team out would be an embarrassment to the playoff selection process. That hasn't happened yet.

Nonetheless, the tinfoil hat part of me thinks a big reason why conference title winners aren't weighted more heavily is because they are laying the groundwork to slip Notre Dame in there with a relatively weak resume. I think I'm joking about that but I could be wrong.

Seems like the way things played out this year provides more fuel for those who would like to expand to 8 teams. That would allow all conference champions and the next best 3.

It’s weird that Alabama is the Vegas favorite.

The rumor is 2 of the 3 injured starting linebackers Alabama has played without since the opening game with FSU will be back at full speed for the playoffs. They were sorely missed all season and perhaps a much improved Alabama defense will play in the Sugar Bowl. Perhaps this is the thinking in Vegas...

So two guys who haven't played all season are going to make Alabama better than Clemson?

I was really hoping for a State-Purdue matchup in the Pinstripe Bowl. Bummed

I would have much preferred the Pinstripe bowl. No idea what the pecking order was for the tier 1 bowls but with no chance State was going to the Belk, New York would have been fun. And I’m not sure why they think BC will draw well forthat bowl (if that was the thinking), State would sell more tickets for a bowl game played in BV’s stadium than they would. But it is what it is.

If you're referring to us, we were favored in the game.

You did outplay us though and shot yourselves in the foot

I know that Wake was favored in the game.

State went 0-2 in games where the combined total yardage was 1006 to 580. By any measure, that’s extremely hard to do, and if State would have done what they should have done to finish those games, it’s not in the scenario it is heading to El Paso. All I was saying.

The "Marcus Ginyard effect" is back!

But seriously, we're supposed to believe players got hurt during the first game of the season and didn't redshirt or medical redshirt? They're going to burn a year of eligibility now?

I guess if those aren't options they have to play, but I don't really see how guys that haven't played in months will give them the best chance to shut down Clemson's offense.

It's nothing to beat yourself over. If the standings are exactly the same next year, State goes to Charlotte and Wake goes to El Paso.

Well if they feel like those players will help them win a national championship, it makes sense to play them.
