NFL Offseason Thread: 2018 NFL Draft

Once Fuller was announced as the player, this was a clear win for the Chiefs.

Correct. Trading the 3rd with a "player to be named later" for Smith isn't the issue.

The issue is including Fuller in the deal when he has a cap friendly contract and is one of the few defenders on the current roster with All Pro potential.

It's almost like Bruce Allen is trying to intentionally sabotage the franchise, but Snyder deserves blame as well. He's responsible for hiring Numbnuts Allen when Tampa couldn't get rid of him fast enough.

I think their fans would be pissed if they ditch three QBs with winning records in Minnesota to break the bank for Cousins.

Once Fuller was announced as the player, this was a clear win for the Chiefs. They seem to really like Mahomes, so if that's what they want to do, go for it.

Yup. He was going to get 1st round consideration but had microfracture surgery his senior year, which is why he dropped to the 3rd. His rookie year was therefore a big nothing, but he's played well his last couple of seasons. I think he'll end up being the best of the Fuller brothers - just a shame for VT that he was the last Fuller brother.

Nah. Pretty clear the QB position isn't what has been propelling the Vikings

You're making my point. So why break the bank for Cousins? Stick with Case and keep Bridgewater as a backup if he wants to stay or draft a QB of the future if they don't think Bridgewater can still be it.

I think MIN will be active in the Cousins talks. They have a ton of cap space and are clearly not sold on Case.

I think a lot depends on how healthy Bridgewater is, or at least how healthy the Vikings perceive him to be. The trouble with Cousins is he appears to want to go to the biggest contract offer that doesn't land him in Cleveland. Cousins isn't that much of an upgrade over a healthy Bridgewater. Or Keenum if he continues to perform like he did this year. The 1 QB I'd be surprised to see Minn retain is Bradford due to his age and injury history. As for Cousins, I doubt Den or Jax has the cap space to sign him. And the NYG appear to be happy with Eli and drafting a rookie. So I'm guessing Buf, Zona or NYJ are the likeliest landing spots for Cousins (I'm pretty sure NYJ have tons of cap room and am guessing Buf and Zona have enough as well).

Denver and the Jets have the best odds per Bovada/BetOnline.

Vikings 15/1, so if people think that's where he's going might wanna throw some change down

Doesn't Denver have a ton of $$ committed to their D?

They have $26M in cap space per Over The Cap. Not great but probably enough to make it work with a few moves.

$10M more than the Jags have

Yeah, here's a piece I found talking about the possibilities and listing the relative cap space for each team. I'm still thinking the most likely spot is NYJ. They have gobs of $$, they're New York, and they were surprisingly decent this year with McCown and a corps of no name WRs. Cousins and Landry would be an attractive pair for them.

Because you have a small window with a great D and bad QB play is why they scored 7 against the Eagles and needed a miracle to even get to that point.

Is Cousins going to give you significantly better QB play than Keenum? I think Cousins is a good QB, but he's a guy who draft and pay, not a guy you break the bank for in free agency.

O/U on Cousins blowing out his ACL opening week if he signs a big money deal with the Jets?

As long as you tailor your offense to his inability/unwillingness to throw the ball over 10 - 15 yards. I just don't see it working in Washington.

If I'm the Jets, I'm all over Cousins.

Huh? I literally just saw the stat in the pro bowl that Smith completed more passes of (I believe) 40 yards or more downfield than any other QB in the league this past year. Pretty much the exact opposite of what you said. ETA the below:

Smith has broken nearly every one of his personal single-season passing records, and he’s even paced the league in several categories from the beginning of the season up until now as well, including the highest quarterback rating (104.7), best deep passer rating (136.2), and the most 40-yard touchdown passes (9) in the league, among others.

How many of those 40+ yard TD passes were 5 yard dump offs that Tyreek Hill or Kareem Hunt took to the house? I remember multiple examples in the New England game alone. That stat you cite doesnt say anything about the actual throws traveling 40+ yards in the air.

It comes down to if Cousins wants to play for a contender or play for someone bap but be one of the highest paid in the league.

Alex Smith is a solid player and I think this is a good move for the Redskins. I think they probably could have gotten him for less however. My wife grew up a Cowboys fan so I'm not allowed to pull for the Redskins for anything (unless I think if they play the Patriots, not sure on that one), but I hope Alex does well. He really got the shaft when Kap took over him and I was happy things worked out pretty well for him in KC.

I don't expect Cousins to go to Minny, but they are in a very weird spot w/ Bradford, Bridgewater, and Keenum. Bradford is injury prone, Bridgewater is a complete mystery after his injury and two year absence, and Keenum hasn't ever been a guy you want to commit to as your franchise QB.
