On An Airplane Next To A Fat Guy

I'm 6'4". If I'm behind a recliner, I have to angle my legs at 45 degrees to fit in the seat. It sucks.

I'm 6'3" and yeah being behind a recliner isn't great. I chalk it up to being one of the very few situations where being tall is a disadvantage and just deal with it though

Don't people have offices somewhere ?

Working on a plane is like going to Starbucks mid-morning and setting up your laptop and and complaining there are too many people in there and you're cramped and it's noisy and there are too many trophy wives with annoying kids.

Well I don't, and when you are flying two/three time a week I don't really have a choice if I want to get things done. Trust me I would love to watch a movie and take a nap sometimes.

Sounds like it's part of your job then and you should make sure they compensate you adequately for the inconvenience. It's not really your fellow passengers' problem.

I don't blame people for reclining, everybody has the button and the right to do it. It still unfortunate when it happens, but it is what it is and not really that big of a problem if you are in the first class/economy plus seating.

Typically I don't recline on domestic flights, but when I fly overseas I do.

What are the longest flights some of you guys have been on? I have flown from LAX to New Zealand which was probably the single longest flight I've taken.

The worst flight I have taken was to Thailand though, I flew Austin/Minn/Tokyo/Bangkok. Holy shit that was brutal.

SFO to Hong Kong was something like 14+ hours. Flew from DC to Bali, so total travel time was like 33 hours (three flights). I'd never do it again.

My sister in law just got back from that same Bali-DC flight you just described. Sounds absolutely brutal. I had enough problems making it back from Vegas yesterday, I don't ever want to think about a trip that takes that long.

Repeated LAX-SYD flights as a youth (probably 5-6 RTs from ages 7-10) when my dad had a job in Australia. Had to pack a whole set of extra batteries to keep the Game Boy alive

I was just coming back home from Corfu Greece, and my flight went 11pm Departure out of Corfu with 2am arrival in Dublin where we spent the night sleeping on the floor, 9am to JFK and then a flight out to Austin. It. Fucking. Sucked.

Also I broke down and checked my backpacking style backpack because i didn't want to deal with it, me and the ladyfriends bags lost for like a week.

Houston to Sydney. I think that was 16 or 17 hours.

I also did Japan->NZ->2 day stop->LA->DC.

It took me 25 hours to get to Calgary from
GSO last year due to GSO losing power and having to reshuffle my connections. We went GSO-ATL-NYLAG-MON-CAL

No flight was longer than like 2-3 hours but it was a mega PITA

One of my best friend's wife flew with their 2 year old daughter from Charlotte to Indonesia. I think total travel time was around 20 or so hours. God bless her.

Went from FL to Honolulu for a couple of days and then on to Auckland. The HNL to Auckland part had a scheduled stop-off in Samoa for refuleing, for which we had to get off the plane. It was around 5AM, the sun was already up, and it felt like the humidity level was 95%. I am pretty sure the little rinky-dink "airport" (more like a single room) didn't have AC, there were no drink/food options, and the only chairs were those hard connected, plastic ones you would be more likely to see in a US bus station circa 1977. Not my most pleasant memory. Thankfully the flight back to Hawaii didn't have/need a stop.

Not a super long flight, but Maui to Dallas (10 hours?) when I was in middle school was terrible not because of the length, but because of the severe turbulence we hit (pacific head winds I think) on the way back inland. Maybe it’s my “kid memory” but I remember the plane (DC10) shuttering/banging, and dropping what seemed like 100 feet every 30 seconds. Seemed like it lasted until we hit the west coast, and this was at night. I was terrified as a kid. I recall hearing people scream. It may be common, but that’s the worst long flight experience I’ve had. Anyone else had a similar experience?

We hit a thunderstorm over the Atlantic when we went to Germany as a family. I was a kid (like 12) but I remember the plane lighting up constantly and dropping while my dad and a German dude were trying to get everyone around us to relax.

Had an 18 hour bus ride from Winston to south jersey freshman year of college to get home for thanksgiving freshman year. Scheduled to leave at midnight but was three hours delayed. Had a three hundred pound dude try and get me to give him head at the bus station to kill the time. By the time I made it to Maryland I got on the wrong connection and ended going to philly insteada Wilmington and my mom has a fear of driving so was pissed at me for having to drive into the city despite the fact it’s 30 mins either way for her and I was the one who just went through 18 hours of hell to get there.

Ended up getting in an argument with the mom and I didn’t spend thanksgiving with the family at all cause I wasn’t spending another 2 hours in the car listening to her bitch at me for the inconvenience to her.

I win

That’s a really sad story. At least you gave that dude head to help the time pass.
