'17 Specials & '18 Midterms Thread

You didn't explain how to fix the problem. Hillary lost to Trump, and your answer is a Hillary/Tester ticket and to shame more people into voting. Your answer doesn't have any solutions to the current crises of global warming, relentless class warfare, and unchecked imperialism. If it did, we wouldn't be where we are today.

I said neither of those things. Smarter people have tried to put words into my mouth and failed miserably as will you.

One of the things I said was that Hillary wasn't close to being my first choice of the Dems. What I also said was that of the people available, Tester was a reasonable choice.

You are being totally dishonest in attempting to change what I say and infusing what you want men to say rather than what I did. You do it all the time.

As to your next to the last sentence, it is also dishonest to throw ideas that we haven't been discussing today into the string and then say I hadn't addressed them in a post that has nothing to do with them. This why most people have given up on you.

We can say whatever we want about voting in 2016 (I voted for a ticket, I think it was morally defensible, I do not think it advanced my political aims), but these are some truly fantastic (as in, a fantasy) ideas about what voting achieves.

I don't see the connection between 1 and 2

If you vote in #1, you're running to be in a party in power in #2 which gives you the power to do #3.

I can't believe this is a difficult concept for people, especially since we've seen it work. How do you think party shifts happen? People who aren't 100% on board get involved and shift the party toward their own politics. There isn't going to be a viable third party. It's not going to happen. I've never seen a viable end game for a 3rd party that wasn't just tilting the balance of an existing party.

I have liked Tester for a while. I think I put him up as one of my choices to run with Hillary.

Perhaps I misunderstood this post. I read it as you wanting this ticket in the future. My bad. Still doesn’t change my opinion that you don’t have a solution to the crises created by capitalism, as shown by a suggestion that Dems should run Tester.

It's not fair to bring up issues that liberalism has no answer for. Got it.

Throw mass incarceration in there too.

When exactly have we seen it work? Not in my lifetime. The party has drifted right for most of my life. People's wages are stagnant. We have the greatest inequality we've had in a century, we have one of the highest incarceration rates in the world. People crowdsource funds to save their life on the fucking internet. People die because they can't afford fucking insulin. Slavery turns into Jim Crow turns into mass incarceration, all because of the stranglehold of capital. Reformism HASN"T worked. It's time we try something else.

RJ would rather pester people online that HAVE VOTED, rather than confront the societal issues that prevent and discourage people from voting. I dont understand it.

A rough estimate from 2017 counts nearly 47k homeless in Los Angeles County - nearly the entire nationwide DSA berniebro membership. How many of those LA homeless voted? How many were even able? How were they registered? How did they get to the polls? How did they learn about the candidates and issues? Did campaigns reach out to them? Has RJ expressed a fraction of the concern for their participation as he has for DSA members?

No. It's also why people conveniently ignored my point that Democrats haven't even fucking mentioned the national prison strike or don't prioritize the voting rights of millions of disenfranchised people.

We've see it work on the right because they vote like their life depends on it.

It's not fair or honest to bring up issues we weren't discussing. As I've said before, you act Trumpian when it suits you. This time you deflected the the problem you were in by adding issues that were not germane to that specific discussion.

Then you go back to being snarky...Again just like Trump..."It's not fair to bring up issues that liberalism has no answer for. Got it"

Your response about answer to an election situation not mentioning global warming, prisons or class warfare is absurd and you should admit it or take another bong hit and regale us ion more absurdisms.

You can't get any more straight blue Dem than Terry McAuliffe who gave voting rights back to many felons and brought up the issue often. Andrew Cuomo made an executive order restoring rights to thousands in NY. There are others as well. Again, you want 100% of you want and you want it now or those trying to help are against you.

As to global warming, I've been working on that for decades as have a huge number of Dems. But they haven't solved it or done enough. So, in your world, fuck 'em!

No matter what any of say or have done, it's never enough for you. But all you've done is go to a couple of meetings in MO and drive those of us who have done work away from your cause.

There you go again, reverting to the same tired argument. In a discussion about the efficacy of an establishment party, its not fair to bring up major societal issues that the party literally doesn't have answers for?

Fuck off. I have no interest in continuing these conversations with you. Leave me alone and let me converse with adults who are capable of having a debate without resorting to all this bullshit.

Democrats can't solve climate change because you can't solve climate change with neoliberal reforms and cap and trade regulations. It's not that "they are trying and its not good enough." It's that they don't have the right answers. THEIR POLICIES HAVE FAILED. Jesus.

The bullshit is you changing the subject of the discussion and blaming others for not answering questions that hadn't been asked in a full day of discussions. The fact you can't admit this is wrong is your problem.

I am sorry for bringing up serious societal problems that your party doesn't have an answer for. Let me uncritically give them my vote, pray for hope and change, and watch all the winning rain down on me.

Exactly how are the Dems supposed to get positive climate change laws passed when the GOP has controlled Congress for the past 8+ years?

Why don't you talk about the successes Dems in states like CA, NY, WA, OR, HI and others have made towards getting results in climate change? Does it not fit your narrative?

You get snarky, condescending and blame it on me. Cool...
