And in the context of my post, I’m the one arguing that they shouldn’t get away with it, especially not here in the United States.

People get away with shit in the corrupt autocratic regime of Vladimir Putin. Yes people get away with shit in the US as well but they shouldn’t. And it seems like they are getting away with more each and every day (through increasingly corrupt and nefarious means) which is why Joe Scarborough said what he did and why I reposted it here.

It’s not ahistorical at all. I clearly acknowledged that people get away with shit all of the time in the US.

But we should demand more of our elected officials (even if the system isn’t perfect). And when we don’t or when we elect “leaders” like Trump who hammer away at the rule of law and mold the country into an illiberal democracy (like Russia, like Hungary, like Turkey), we should have the balls to say so.

Not sit back and say “well there is illiberal bullshit happening on both sides.”

LOL. There are no political winners in the Epstein story. Trump knew Epstein at least as well as Bill Clinton, and politicians from both parties were "associates" of Epstein, as well as elite lawyers, corporate officials, and entertainment celebrities. It's just an incredibly sordid story all around. But leave it to Trump to attack the Clintons when he's clearly involved himself - no doubt his supporters will believe it, because they hate the Clintons, and because their Dear Leader said it, so it must be true.

The conclusions will be something along the lines of: “the guards didn’t follow protocol...and Trump (et al.) are not implicated”. Or “we can’t clearly say that they are not, or were not unimplicated.”
