ALL PRAISE JOHN CURRIE FOR ACTING A YEAR TOO LATE

So who were all the great coaches available in MAY last year? Most of the board favs* were already in new spots. Would you want a coach who would abandon his team at that time?

*Wes Miller an exception.
Dude, we could have just rotated high school coaches!

Just for discussion, what if we buyout Manning, spend a couple of mission on another coach and, heavens forbid, there is no 2020 basketball season? There would be some critical comments about paying someone to do nothing.... There could be other concerns like lost revenue if forced to play in empty arenas.

We've been doing both of these for pretty much the entire time Manning has been here.

If we fire Manning and hire a new coach to do nothing when next season gets cancelled then that just puts us in the same boat as every other college in this country. It will suck for everyone but at least we could have a new competent (hopefully) coach leading us through uncharted waters. Manning is the last guy on earth I want in charge if the season gets cancelled.

Even if there's no sports in 20-21, there will still be recruiting in some form or fashion.

it must be asked: would zero recruiting, maybe having an assistant mail out some offer letters, be better than another year of Manning recruiting? We never saw how deep into the barrel [Redacted] could scrape. Manning has recruited some real clunkers.

Manning recruiting has been all over the map. Hoard at the top. Chaundee and Mucius, very respectable top100 guys, Collins, Sarr, Massoud, Mitchell respectable/developmental projects. (Some developed faster than others.) Oguama, a deep reach that seems to be paying off. Then guys like the departing Wynn and Jamie Lewis go in the "head scratcher, what was he thinking" category.

The just signed 2020 class looks like, at best some deep reach guys, probably at least one head scratcher, nobody in the top 200.

The PG was border top 100 when signed but seems to have fallen.

He seems to have played his way out of the top 200.

You're an idiot. He didn't play his way down the rankings. He averaged 17 ppg, 11 apg, and 3 steals per game for a team that went to the state finals, and featured top-30 recruit Adam Miller. The rankings drop is purely bc of our coaching situation and irrelevance.

The world is also not ending in 18 months, and revenues will come back. Nostradumbass.

So next year we lose Childress, White, Johnson and Sarr, Manning comes back and we bring in the worst recruiting class in the ACC. WOOF we might win 5 games total.

Whoever our coach is, he should be all over Brady Sluder; fearless prospect out of Ohio who is also a baseball standout.

If we bring Manning back we deserve to win 5 games total next season.

Until we see anything different like firing Manning, Currie is just a Wellman shill.

C'mon folks. Let's review what we know …

Currie wants to remove DM, as much or more than any of us.
Currie wants to hire his own MBB HC. It's what he was hired to do.
He is hamstrung by that ridiculous buyout clause that the prior AD gave in an attempt to extend his own tenure. (top 3 MBB buyout $: Coach Cal, Bennett and DM … which one is not like the other two??)
DM will not negotiate a lower $ buyout. (why would he? he's not getting another HC job any time soon. not his fault the prior AD dumped gold in his lap while further undermining our once-proud MBB program)
Buyout $ of that magnitude are not (at the moment) available. The Gang of Four are not willing to pay for the prior AD's malfeasance. There is no other source (or it would have been tapped last year)
Things are moving slowly right now, in part because of the unprecedented worldwide situation and the related market fluctuations.
Currie's experience at Rocky Top are advising his approach to our coaching dilemma. Expect nothing to leak until he has something to announce. Silence may actually be our friend right now.

I choose to believe (hope?) that somehow we will have a new MBB HC long before the balls are rolled out for practice next season. Against all odds, we need to start turning this thing around now. Apathy is worse than anger and frustration. The video highlights of the '95 championship team brought back some great memories. At the same time, it was a bit surreal to see such outstanding hoops played by guys wearing WF. It has been way too long …

Tick Toc ...

Yes to all of this. Thank you.

Hot garbage. Would be DFL in ACC if we weren't ranked higher than ND and Cuse simply by having a bigger class. (According to Scout rankings) lowest average rating in ACC. Share the distinction with ND as the only two schools not to have anyone ranked over a 3-star.

I don't see how having an interim last year, or now, or next year would hurt recruiting much.
