BBall Recruiting Thread 2k20 - Watson/Adams - Gibson/Bailey ('20) & James ('21) Gone

Yep. I'm guessing L'ville. They are losing a ton from last year's team, and they just had a big-time JUCO commit announce that he's going to straight to the NBA. Mack has a track record of doing well with grad transfers.

I thought the NCAA had imposed a dead period because of the coronavirus. Is it over? Or did Oats get around it somehow?

A recruit can announce a commit whenever they want. Could have been locked up with a phone call prior. Dead period involves no campus visits or in person meetings.

Probably means commitment. The NCAA can't stop a kid from saying, "I'm going to..."

Wake Forest has also done a good job of showing that they want Flavors, and he is very intrigued with what Danny Manning and the Demon Deacons have to offer.

“They are really consistent in their approach to recruiting,” said Flavors of Wake Forest. “They came on pretty strong the last couple of days. I like the coaching staff. They are a very experienced staff. Three of the four been at a high level, which is what I want to do when my career is over with, play in the NBA.”

He continued about Wake Forest, “Really, it is just the program which has a lot of history and great players have played there that intrigue me. The people and staff are real eager to get me out there. With everything going on right now it is impossible to go on visits, but they are doing their best to tell me about their school.”

Translation, because Wake is in the ACC, I have to list them so it will look good for the team I am REALLY going to pick

Has there been a GT make it to the NBA? If a kid is definitely only going to be on campus for 1 year and he has that ambition, do we want him? Asking for a friend.

IMHO, it would be more surprising if a guy with his success was NOT, at least publicly, talking about NBA ambitions. One way to make those ambitions reality is to ball out his GT season in a P6 conference. Show he can play well against the best in college. So I have no problem with him as a one year guy.

If he's not NBA material, at least he should get a grad degree from a good school. And he has a good chance of being better than Wynn ever would be.

I understand your points. My concern is the tendency for some guys with unrealistic NBA dreams to decide to play hero ball and ending up hurting the team on the floor and in the locker room.

IMHO, that is less likely to happen with a guy who worked his way up from mid major recruit level than with a guy who has had "NBA material" whispered in his ear for as long as he can remember.

Looking at his stats for last season: good 3P shooter; doesn't get to the line much; not as high volume a shooter as the leading scorer on the team; less than 1 assist per game; more turnovers than assists. His next school will be his fourth, including one CC and one year at Fairfield. Nothing there says NBA to me.

Andrien White's brother Andrew is one example.

Good catch. I don't really follow the NBA but it seems that kids who are in school for 4 years have other aspirations. On an unrelated non-Wake note, Mac McClung of Georgetown is testing the waters. Well, it is sort of Wake related - he and Josh Shoemaker played at the same HS years apart.

He went to Oklahoma State.

Addition by subtraction.

So sick of these multiple transfer kids. That we were even considering him, much less begging him to come is indication of a true dumpster fire.

Getting some version of Cal Boyd does not help this program. Roll the ball out there and let the frosh and sophs, plus Mucius get some experience in our thank you Chaundee Brown (but so sorry this happened to you) farewell tour.
