On An Airplane Next To A Fat Guy

I have no clue what people around me do on these planes. I put on the noise canceling headphones, crack open the laptop and check the F out on these jack-faces.

And it's worth noting that the outbound flight to DET then LAX were definitely lower attendance than normal, as in some empty seats were pretty visible. It's usually a full flight. I suspect (hope) return tomorrow will be even more sparse. I suspect we will see big cuts in the flight schedule soon. Airlines got no time for empty seats. They're basically the opposite of WF basketball.

I got a laugh out of the idea of Currie announcing “Attendance is low so we are cutting our home games against Clemson and BC.”

Interesting flights this last trip to Telluride:

- CLT to DFW was in back of the bus sitting beside a coughing/sneezing Asian guy who didn't speak good English - corona'd
- DFW to Montrose, was in back of the bus and a legit 450 lb woman with a 1 month old infant sat in the aisle across from me. I felt really bad for her, and she was apologetic whenever she bumped into anyone, blocked the aisle, asked for the seatbelt extender, etc. Baby was quiet, but pooped with like 45 min to go. Zero chance she would have fit in the lavatory to change her.
- Montrose to DFW flight was nearly empty, gate agent moved us to exit row and had the entire row to ourselves. Very turbulent landing.
- DFW to CLT, again got moved to exit row. Was sitting in the ultimate legroom seat across from where the FA sits during takeoff/landing. Turbulence was so bad I could see the fear in her eyes, as she strapped herself in about as tight as the harness would go. Not reassuring. Wife and I chatted with her and she ended up giving us beers, snack packs, cookies, and Pringles for free once the turbulence stopped.

How can a flight attendant be scared of turbulence? She must have been new or something?

Also sorry about the Corona. RIP.

Was just on a flight to DFW and it felt like half the plan was coughing up a lung. So ready to be home, Jesus.

Flight home from LAX was on a 767-300 which normally means misery for those in the middle and long bathroom lines. But this one had lots of empty seats and no one was coughing, so we all had a grand time flying back. And by grand time I mean I cleaned the touchpoints, put on my headphones, worked and didn't touch a single thing on that plane. And I had an empty seat next to me. So glorious when that happens.

LAX was a total shit-show. People were everywhere. I have no idea why that airport is so crappy.

Pretty much all airlines (AA, Delta, United) waiving change fees for flights booked before the end of the month. Thinking about booking a flight to SLC to try to time a late season or early next season weekend pow pow storm.

FWIW quick trip mid week going through ATL to Tampa. Flight from ATL to Tampa and return were both packed on a big plane. No significant number of masked travelers ?!?

90% of masks I saw in airports this week were under the person's chin, not even covering their mouths.

Dude. You’ve got to let me know next time you’re in Tampa.

Having a clusterfuck of a morning. Trying to take a regional united flight to O’Hare and from there to Charlotte on American. Somehow the united agent deleted my reservation to Charlotte when checking me in (couldn’t check in online for some reason) and I can’t get anyone from American on the damn phone. No American agent at the airport either.

The united agent keeps telling me my American reservation was not confirmed, despite me showing her my email confirmation with a reservation number (showing “confirmed” and seat assignment). But my American flight now has disappeared from my itinerary on American’s website and on the app.

I don’t know what the hell happened but got everything squared away with an agent when I landed in Chicago.

yeah i have no idea why united would have any visibility into American's passenger records.

my anecdote: my flight ORD-CLT on Tues night was about 30% full - usually is 90% plus.

Montrose airport easily one of my top 5 favorites airports. Not because of the amenities, there are none, but just for nostalgia purposes. Flying directly into Telluride is a helluva experience as well. Short runway on top of a mountain, pilots are usually super young guys because its a small plane. Great overall experience.

also seems like a bad idea to mix airlines when connecting since if you're delayed you can't get on the next available flight.

There's a brewery in Montrose airport now. Food was tasty. Was drinking leftover bud lights from the ski trip so no comment on beers.

I miss this thread, and its insight into how the other half lives.

Damn....almost 2 months without a post. I suppose no one has been on many airplanes, much less NEAR someone in weeks. I was surprised to learn that the average flight still has 17 people on it.
