Official Clemson vs. Wake Game Thread - 7:49 on ABC

I concur with this. Kern looks really good

Reminds me a little bit of Riley. Seems to have good pocket awareness, accurate, I think we are in good hands 2 deep at QB. Griffitts showed some moxy too.

I hope Clawson sends in tape of the Clemson D-lineman ripping off Hartman's helmet. Fingers were clearly visible inside the back edge as he pulled it off.

Grabbing receivers every play is nasty football.

Pulling a player's helmet off in the tackling pile is attempting to injure.

Our staff needs to learn how to game plan against top teams. They are fine against 2nd tier but totally out classed against the best in the country.

Yeah and don’t make ND look all world. They struggled at home vs duke.

I actually think we’ve got a shot against ND, at least a slim one.

This, plus the momentum of converting, holding the ball on offense longer, making Clemson actually work instead of using us as a live scrimmage to work on some plays. Dave's conservatism in the first quarter lead to a punt that netted 20 yards which was quickly made up in one play by Clemson, and the missed field goal that would have meant nothing and gave Clemson the ball right where we were anyway. We could have made this game interesting for at least two quarters, maybe even starting the second half with the ball, some momentum, and opportunity to cut the lead to a score.

Not going for it on 4th and 2, then not going for it again before the miss. Weak weak weak. That set the loser tone. Done

Our DB’s need to start holding every play like Clemson.

Basham was once held and tackled with no flag.

These Clemson backup QBs have some of the wildest names ever.

Uiagalelei
Phommachanh

Wasn’t Uiagalelei the QB that took the place of that main one in California. In Hartmans season of QB 1 I’m pretty sure he is

Our DBs weren't even near the receivers.

This is simply not true. You can and should call every one, and you do it early. It's called managing the game. I've been to a number college officials camps (not for football) and managing the game is priority number 1. You set the tone early and then you don't have to call it on every play. This was just poor officiating. The problem is they won't be reprimanded or corrected at all.

To your last point, everyone doesn't do it because they would have called it on anyone but Clemson. They would have never let Wake get away with that bull shit in this game.

But they don’t call every one

If the officials are unfairly letting Clemson getting away with bullshit then opposing coaches have a choice:

1. Let it happen; or
2. Call them out on it.

Seems we’re choosing #1

Really impressed with Morin tonight, I think he has the chance to be a really good receiver. See glimpses of Camp in his game.

I think Greene is going to be an absolute stud. NFL potential for sure and reminds me a lot of Surratt.

Greene still needs to adjust to being the primary focus of the defensive backs. Last year he was not. Sage, Scotty and Kendall were looked at before him. Now he needs to adjust to the role that (mostly) Sage had last season.

ETA:

Morin looks like he could be a really good #2 receiver. The guy who burns you often if you focus too much on the #1 receiver.

Clemson is in a different class of football. They make most teams look lousy.

Clawson stressed the need for a running game then gave Walker one series in the first half. CBS is a better blocker but he won't establish a running game. Walker can. Use him early.

Pass defense looked lousy.

Kicking field goals won't beat Clemson. Wake has to go for TD's when the opportunity is available. Same for ND.

Greene is much faster than Surrat could ever dream of being. But Surrat is otherworldly in terms of hand strength and body control.

Lots to be positive about from what I saw. Obviously liked Greene and the two slot receivers (Morin and Roberson). Definitely going to need more from the other side. Couldn’t help thinking about what it would have looked like with Sage over there.

The O-line was solid, as were the running backs. Was a little surprised that it took as long as it did to see Walker back there.

QB play was good, too. Griffis lived up to his John Wolford clone reputation—looks just like him back there.

And those two attributes will get him drafted high. He also has a pretty big catch radius. NFL coaches love a receiver who can convert 50/50 balls into 90/10 catches. Also guys who are good at catching "vicinity balls."

That may be the biggest concern from tonight. Got to tighten up the coverage and a better pass rush than what we showed tonight. Boogie will get his, but teams will double him, so we’ve got to get pressure from other places.

Greene, Morin, and Robinson have nice speed. We just need to get them the ball. I'd really like to see more creative ways to get the receivers involved. QB play was fine. CBS and Walker were fine although Walker just has "it." The OL play was problematic. I'm not going to be too worried about that though until after next week.

Bothroyd was out for the game he was pretty good last season.

Walker is not "fine" in pass protection. One of his "lookout" blocks nearly got Sam killed. As a runner, no question, he is good.

Nah, WRS is correct. Creamy dropped the scoop first.

Go back and look at his Hudl highlights. He was amazing in high school against good competition and was first team all-state twice in Va. I think they won a state title too. He was a vastly underrated recruit.
