2021 Football Coaching Carousel

Yep. He was an All-American. He is in the college football HOF. Poindexter was one of the two UVA tacklers that brought Warrick Dunn down on the one yard line to give FSU its first loss in ACC History. Poindexter was a lock to be 1st round pick, and he blew out his knew during his senior year, which ruined his draft stock. Even so, the Ravens drafted him, and he was on the 2000 Ravens team that won it all. He is one of the best players in UVA history.

Yeah, I'd take him, Chris Long and Herman Moore as the best UVA football players ever.

C'mon man. Aren't you an older poster? You don't remember Poindexter from the 90s UVA teams? Dude was awesome.

Nope, don't specifically recall anything about UVA football from the 90's. Guessing he was there for the George Welsh years and they were probably pretty decent, but that's all I got.

Who rounds out your top 5? Shawn Moore, Tiki, Ronde, Heath Miller, D’Brickashaw?

Every sport has passionate fans that verge on the psychotic, but college football fans go the pycho ex-girlfriend (or boyfriend) route more than any other sport by far. It's a sport and it's become a big business. Move on.

College football is rooted in places where college football is core to the identity of the fan base. Much of college sports happens in places that nobody knows anything about except college football.

I get why people in Oklahoma hate Riley and KD. Nobody knows or cares about anything related to Oklahoma except the Sooners and Thunder.

Why are so many people looking to bolt Clemson now? Hmmm

They know it's about to hit the fan with some investigations. They had a good run for quite a while and I think the NCAA is investigating this year since they had a "down" year.

It’s just hilarious how simultaneously they’re so mad at him for leaving but also like fuck that guy we were all over him anyway.

lol

if they had even a somewhat competent quarterback, they'd be in the playoffs

Understandably mad because of the max damage it did since there was literally zero notice and half the staff left with him...the day after a Bedlam loss. OU fans weren't worried about finding a replacement because they have a stellar AD. It's also false to say people weren't concerned about the direction of the program with the inexplicable losses and close games to bad teams. There was clearly something amiss, but it was fixable and the recruiting was peaking. So now recruiting has taken a big hit, which is a new problem that will be fixed in the next cycle I guess, but what needed fixing (culture and style approach going into the SEC) is definitely going to get fixed. People are generally either hot or cold, pessimistic or optimistic, and this whole thing is a perfect reflection of that. I will say that there is a new energy evident already. And what Ph said, while his usual condescending self, is fairly accurate. The state of OK loves its football. That's by design when the OU BOR made a conscious decision to promote morale within the state by having a great football program. The Dust Bowl and the Joads did a number on the state, and they wanted it to be known for something other than that. And that is why it is the center of the universe in that part of the country for more than 70 years now.

I am extremely surprised that a college football coach in 2021 didn’t provide the appropriate amount of notice when leaving for another job. Poor form.

Did he put in place a document to help his manager and successor get acclimated?

"in 2021" being the key part of your statement there. The times they are a changing in CFB, and not for the better. At all. He was gifted that job, one that anybody not named Nick Saban would've killed for, so yeah, I expected better form from FULR. But it's 2021.

I really hope that 3 inches of highway gets named after him. Hilarious and petty at the same time.
