No idea. The Dems in my lifetime have mainly been running scared after the Clinton debacle. I’m a big proponent of at least trying something, though, because the obstructionism will continue as long as these shills are incentivized by lobbyist/PAC dollars.

What do you think?

I don't know what to do. Some days I with Brasky's "Let's sink the mother fuckers boat to teach him a lesson" perspective and other days I'm with ChrisL's "judges and budgets are better than nothing at all" perspective.

I assume that most of us share that struggle, I don’t think I could trust the sincerity of someone that doesn’t.

This is peak progressive white male privilege. You all will be fine once the fascists take over, content to take pot shots at the moderates.

You and the fascists may have different opinions but you share the same rights. Enjoy that while the rest of us suffer.

I can’t imagine being so out of touch to believe that ceding power to Republicans will actually help bring about positive change.

Well, that’s my big fear. Kicking Manchin out will only pave the way for a wacko pub to take his seat, and once the pubs have the senate the, the house, and the presidency all together, elections will be just for show thereafter. The Dems, slow and weak as they are on implementing any meaningful policy, are the only thing standing in the way of full blown theocratic fascism in the USA. So, some days he makes me so angry (mostly on climate policy obstruction) I want to blow up his boat and other days I remember “at least he’s not a fascist.” Openly anyway.

You’re such a dishonest and unserious person. Republicans control 30/50 state governments and win every other major election. You crying about “ceding power” is fucking asinine, neither of us have any power to cede. You have no control, you just flatter yourself with the illusion of control.

And you’re delusional if you think the fascists are coming after a white guy in sales. And your politics don’t threaten them. You will be fine.

I know you don’t like to think it but otherwise you wouldn’t be saying ridiculous stuff like dreaming about how things would be better if Trump or DeSantis won in 2024. No true ally thinks like that.

I think Ph's point is valid. Us white guys can, if confronted, easily say "Oh yeah, I totally hate Mexicans, you shouldn't beat me up!" But, a black man doesn't have that privilege, even if he truly hates Mexicans there is not hiding from his skin color in a fascist state. Sure they parade around Herman Cain when they need him, but, by an large, black people will suffer a lot more than the average white person if the coup succeeds next time and it raises the stakes for a black man.

Having said that, I've got a trans kid and a lesbian kid. Pubs are already openly declaring parents like me a child abuser because I am not repressing and forcing my children into cis facades. If the coup succeeds, my kids are in big trouble too. Admittedly it is still easier to hide their troublesome identities behind their whiteness, but there is more to each of us and our families than just being middle/upper middle class white guys.

I think everybody would do well to read at least a Wikipedia page about Italian and German fascism. Perhaps some Dylan Riley for the academics in the room.

It’s not as simple as some of y’all seem to think it is
