Hartman, Perry and other NFL Draft Prospects

But Morin is also really good. Which is the point. There's no break for opposing defenses. Clawson talked about that in the coach's show. The whole plan is to run a lot of players and for Morin and Ke to split them close to 50-50.

Kind of hard to not appreciate our 3 outside guys.. And Horacio Fields would have been a hell of a 4th. Higgins is a god.

My biggest complaint about Sam early on was that he sailed balls way past open receivers. Now he underthrows them into PI calls. He's a smart, capable QB. If he wants the NFL to be his job, I would not put it past him carving out a Wolf like backup gig. But also keep in mind, we are talking about a total of like 65 jobs or less on an active roster year-over-year. That is tough sledding.

And we’ve got 2 QBs in the NFL!

Sam headlined a Mel Kiper article on ESPN last week (paywalled, not sure what it said but the headline asked "Is Hartman rising on draft boards?"). It was on the front page for a long time. I think the knocks on him are always going to be there, but I don't recall someone like Wolford getting that kind of look prior to the draft.

I think if we went back through the archives, the boards as a collective tends to vastly overestimate how draftable our players are. But getting on the radar early is a big piece. And we also have some guys who have more NFL-style bodies now (especially at WR). so who knows what can happen but it's exciting.

We overrate draftability, but our guys do end up making it into the league and achieving on par with Day 3 guys.

Look at Dortch. Only 12 out of 24 WRs taken in the 4th to 7th round in 2018 are still in the league. Austin Proehl never caught a ball in the league.

Someone is giving Hartman a 3rd place Heisman vote in the Athletic's weekly poll

Clemson has played 6 games. The Tigers are considered to have an elite defense.

They have surrendered 10 total passing TDs on the season -- 6 of those to Hartman - 4 in Clemson's other 5 games.

If Clawson wanted to pad Hartman's stats, he could have thrown for 4+ TDs against Army. That wasn't the gameplan; so, Sam threw for one. Sam missed the VMI game or he would have even gaudier stats. Invite Sam to NYC and give him the damn trophy. Madison Avenue would love Sam.

BTW, how hilarious would it be if the worst WF QB in decades got an invite to New York?

Yeah if you give Sam the stats we accrued against VMI and take into account that Army couldn't stop us against our base run for the entire game (so we just kept shoving it down their throat) his numbers would be better, but it is what it is. I'm not counting on it but it would be an amazing cap to a career for Sam to get an invite to NYC before hopefully the Orange Bowl. Of course that requires him to be at least in the top 5 in the final voting which I don't see. He's currently 12th in Vegas odds at +4000 (tied with Drake Maye) where Stroud is -140 and nobody else is better than +1000

How is Sam the worst WF QB in decades? I realize we've had some good QBs, but I really like Sam as a college QB.

Sam obviously isn't. He's the most prolific QB in WF history, possibly in ACC history. Just poking one of the WF beat guys who issued an ill-advised tweet during the Liberty game.

Riley was more accurate and never had the coaching or receivers Sam has had. Nonetheless, Sam is his equal at this point. Sam could get to a clear #1 if WF finishes strong.
hell, Sam is welcome to return if he wants to really get some distance from Riley

Riley and Wolford are arguably better "game managers" than Hartman (for whatever, probably subjective, criteria we want to use). Wolford is probably the best athlete we've had at QB. I think Hartman has the best arm of the bunch and overall has the edge as the "top QB" in Wake history but I do agree that he's really benefitted from a ridiculous receiving corps.

Fanatic Deac reads the boards! (should really give some credit to Pilchard, though)
