MBB Game 3: Utah Valley Wolverines - Tuesday 7 pm - ACCN+

Appleby is so important for this team. When we had a lineup without him in there for a stretch we were so lost on offense. Hoping Ituka can come back and be another player that can help in that regard.

Our bigs are embarrassing, but maybe it was just a bad matchup. Not sure there's anything more frustrating than consistently giving up O rebs, after getting a "stop".

Monsanto's body language has looked a lot better the last two games. Hoping he keeps progressing. I think he will. Do wish he would slash to the basket more. He appears to settle for the 3.

Why did every Utah Valley fan have the same quarter zip pullover? That made it pop too.

I may be wrong about this, but Bandaogo will be one of the better big men we face all year. Dude is raw, but has pretty good upside moving forward. No clue how the WAC is going to stop him.

Stan said that uvu is picked to finish 7th in the WAC.

Ummm.... very likely not the case with that big man.

Utah Valley had more fans tonight than we did. Only 2k miles away. They are flying back tonight. Nice folks.
seems strange that group would fly across country for a weekday game in ws and fly back instead of going to Jamaica.

Can't help but love how well prepared Forbes has this team. Missing Ituka, our bigs are still a work in progress, Klintman has a bright future but needs court time to develop... But on a night where we played ok but got worked for 53 boards and 6 blocks (plus they only missed one free throw) they made two comebacks in regulation and OT to set up a flawless game-winning play that everyone seemed 100% confident in running.

Far cry from Manning's "give it to our best player and pray" strategy.

Stan said that he saw the team practicing the game-winning play pass during the pre-game shoot around.

Their fans being there and in the same exact pullover was crazy. I assumed they were going to Jamaica also, but either way it was weird.

Bandaogo played spot minutes for Akron (NCAAT team) last season. Wake knew he'd be a problem but I don't know how anybody would've thought in mid-October when filling out a preseason poll, "hey, this 7-foot stiff is going to make a huge difference."

You're going to see more and more of this with the portal and first-time transfer eligibility, where even coaches in the league don't know much about other teams until games begin.

I will expand on DeacsATS comment about Bandaogo. He was clearly the best player on the floor last night. Our bigs all play from below the rim and Bandaogo does not...maybe the only person playing last night that could finish in the post with a dunk. He also made all of our post scoring very (and embarrassingly) difficult for our bigs...at one point i thought every shot that we put up from the post had a great potential of being blocked.

We need to get him in the transfer portal.

Not really -- Steve explained the ball-screen coverage problems and issues much better than I could sum it up. Basically from my view, Bandaogo was just going to go around Bradford and Marsh with really good quickness for a 7-footer. Klintman and Carr could at least stay in front of him.

Glass-half-empty is that Wake's two 7-footers couldn't handle Bandaogo; glass-half-full is that doesn't mean it'll be like that all season, and WF isn't going to see that many 7-footers with that kind of skillset. I mean, they'll see some.
Klintman didn't have the best stats line, but the fact is he was +10 shows there is definitely things he provides the stats don't capture. I think his length/quickness are huge assets on D especially in a game where coach decides to go small where you need bigs that can help out and not many 6'10" guys with his length and athleticism. He also helps pull one of the other bigs away from the paint when we're on O and he is running around perimeter to open up paint for others.

I thought Bobi was excellent defensively and he doesn't make mistakes on the offensive end. He will get a lot more polished as he plays more, but the fact Forbes had him out there for 30 minutes, including what I think was the final 10-15 minutes of the game tells us all we need to know about how the staff likes him.

I asked the same. They said they were told the ACC had special home courts. Then one laughed pointing out correctly how much better there place is in Orem. I have been to that one and it is way better.

Yeah Klintman's offensive game will take time to develop beyond just taking what the offense gives him. We've got some length with Carr, some strength with Bradford/Marsh, and some speed with Keller - Klintman is the only player on the roster with all 3. Such a great pickup by Forbes.
