Wake Forest Basketball - '23-24 Schedule Thread

I guess Ole Miss found out it was not easy to attract teams to the Ole Miss MTE in Oxford, Mississippi. Now...the Deacs need to win the first two games down there and hope Beard gets Ole Miss into the final, so WF can hopefully get a nice win

 
As blah as it looks on paper, if Wake gets to play 3 of Drake, LMU, Utah St, and Ole Miss it would not be bad for the non-conference SOS. Probably could add SFA to that list as well. It is the mid-major version of the Maui.
 
I’d bet good money both Utah State and LMU are worse next year than they were last year. Hopefully decent enough.

Drake probably still decent with DeVries. Beard teams are always good but Ole Miss was awful last year so who knows what level of improvement.

Marshall, SFA, and Oakland likely won’t help.
 
The schedule will be fine. Home against Rutgers is at least Q2, possibly Q1. At Georgia is also likely Q2. Our SEC/ACC challenge opponent will be another good opportunity, don't think it's been announced yet. Still think we owe Xavier a road game at some point which will be Q1 if it's this year.

Our metrics weren't bad last year because the non-conference SOS was bad, the metrics were bad because we lost to mediocre/bad teams and beat other bad teams by single digits or buzzer beaters. Translation, we weren't that good and the metrics had us ranked correctly. This schedule will also be fine, we just have to be better.
 
I think the schedule will be meh again but agree that's not why we missed the tournament - we missed the tournament because we weren't good enough

Yeah we're replacing Cayman with Charleston. You can't play two MTEs in the same season
 
That is such a better field. Time to take down Pitino and Sampson.
 
Ranked by last year's KP ratings:

#2 - Houston
#31 - North Texas
#75 - Utah
#79 - Dayton
#82 - St. John's
#127 - Towson
#151 - LSU

That's a pretty significant upgrade... And you have to assume that St. John's & LSU will be better this year (though North Texas is probably worse).
