Wake Forest 2023 baseball season thread (Deacs end historic season with extra inning loss to LSU: Final record 54-12 and top 4 finish nationally)

You’ll notice that about 10 posts above that I also said that we need to swing often because Skenes has only walked 18 guys all year. I just think it’s rich when people join the bandwagon at the end of the ride and preach to other people who actually follow this team. We’re glad you’re on board. But don’t act like you know this team and why it’s been successful this year.
I've probably been to 10 games this year, so let's not act like I haven't watched them. They are timid at the plate, and my observation is that they are doing exactly what you've said. Trying to run up pitch counts, get to the bullpen etc. We're watching so many strikes. You have to adjust, you can't just say hey we were patient in April so let's stay patient. The strike zones are inconsistent, take it out of the umps hand. Get in the box ready to go. They aren't even ready to hit until the 3rd pitch of an at bat right now.

Listening to people who watched their first ever Wake baseball game THIS WEEK saying we have no chance tonight makes me want to blow my brains out. This team went is 54-11. Take a fkn breath and enjoy the ride.

Yeah, don’t need a major change in approach, that just leads to guys playing tight instead of loose and pressing too much. I would tell them to do what they have been doing, just understand we have to expand our strike zone a little.

We are going to win tonight. Give me a guy who throws 100 mph all day vs the off speed guys. We find out bats tonight and get enough clutch defensive plays to pull it out.
I do think this could help us honestly. It's gonna be coming in hot, let our reactions take over stop thinking about it and just hit the fuckin thing.

Yeah, the pitches we kept taking last night that were "up" in the strike zone were frustrating as it was established pretty early that was part of the ump's strike zone.

A couple of observations from fucking Iowa this morning:

-The ticket market for this game has softened quite a bit over the last 10 hours. Good tickets to be had for cheaper than any of Wake’s (three) or LSU’s (four) games so far. An indication LSU isn’t buying tickets at their previous rates for this CWS?

-Betting markets appear to be moving towards LSU, FanDuel is giving LSU 60% implied odds right now.

I feel like we have them where we want them. Their fans are on cruise control, thinking they’re already playing Florida, treating this game as though it’s perfunctory. The markets are moving with the herd. I like our chances here. Feeling really good about today. Can’t wait to get to the stadium.

Go DEACS!

I think Lowder is going to have a real chip on his shoulder tonight too. Basically the announcers last night kept talking up how great Skenes is (and he is) and you'd get a Lowder is good too, but Skenes is next level.

Just a heads up that both coaches have given non-definitive answers on Rhett and Skenes tonight. I do expect that they will both pitch, but would not be shocked if one didn’t or if they only had a few innings.

Can you imagine the implosion on this board if they trot Skenes out there and Walter doesn't put Lowder out there?

For anyone that likes over reacting in game threads, can you just go ahead and conceptualize that Paul Skenes is going to strike out a lot of Wake Forest hitters?

He’s an incredible pitcher that could strike out a lot of MLB hitters already. It’s just gonna happen tonight even if our bats are doing well, so go ahead and accept it.

Thanks in advance.

If he strikes out 15, I'll live with it if 13 of those we were at least swinging at 2 of the strikes.

Yep. Every pitch is either a ball or a strike. So there is a 50-50 chance it's a strike regardless. If you don't swing, there is a 100% chance that you won't hit the ball. If you do swing it raises the odds of hitting the ball dramatically. And if we don't win tonight, there is a 100% chance our season is over. If we do win, there is a 50-50 chance we win the National Championship. So there is much more to gain by swinging away.
And people say taking calculus is a waste of time

I haven't read back far, but still can't believe we didn't walk the fat dude that hit the 3 run homer.
