ESPN cleans house

Imagine some of the firings were based on contract length and buyouts and severance and all that beyond just tenure and annual salary

I hate to see people lose their job, but as a consumer I’d much rather ESPN spend to get streaming rights so that I can watch any Wake game I want instead of spending money on anything else

You already have ESPN+?

The move I don't get is firing Jalen Rose and keeping Perk. Jalen was 1 of the better personalities there. Also don't get keeping Tannenbaum.

My guess is they fired the most expensive ones who could most easily be released. I thought Rose was one of the best basketball analysts on the entire network. He was objective and provided great insight from a player's perspective.

Kellerman? I found him annoying as hell.

Bummer to lose Max Kellerman’s boxing show.
This was my first thought, all the other layoffs don’t impact sports the way losing Max impacts boxing.

For boxing news I really enjoy Teddy Atlas’s podcast, not sure if it will be your thing or not tho.

Hopefully Max pivots to something similar.

Yeah. But also realize by doing those things he’s gotten all sorts of people wanting to move to Florida. Pissing off Disney is more than made up by people leaving blue states to come to Florida. It’s why he didn’t care about doing it

Canceling billion dollar projects has an impact
  • signing something that slashed the workforce in two industries that already had a pretty sizable labor shortage probably isn’t great
  • cancelling ~350MM in federal funding (which has been one of if not the largest driver of Florida’s economic boom since 2019) for consumers when the cost of living is skyrocketing in FL while wages are lagging doesn’t exactly scream economic boost.

it's not just about "punishing" Disney, there are so many ancillary jobs that are impacted. Restaurants, hotels, grocery stores, plumbers, electricians, etc.

For all the talk about "talking heads don't matter" does a single person here watch the Fox Sports version of College Gameday? Or even the SEC version? Sometimes analysis does matter. The Pollack firing is surprising, until your realize how many people they actually have on that show now. I'm sure Pollack will be on Fox Sports this season in between Clay and Urban.

Shitty thing about Gameday now is the Michigan guy and the Ohio State guy are still there. And I definitely check out the SEC Gameday show. I’ve watched the ACC and it’s awful.

Could you imagine a Disney that had no gay employees and only right leaning employees. Hilarious.

Could you imagine a Disney that simply entertained people and put shareholder interest as priority #1?

Wasn't Riley Skinner on there for like a minute one season?
