GT Game Thread

Ruining someone's flight career over simply flying too low sounds a bit extreme.
For a military pilot, not following flight parameters could be life ending, not just for themselves, but also others. That is why failing to do so is career ending.

I defer to the military experts but sounds a little extreme to me. But I'm not running the military.

I mean how do you confuse altitude above sea level and ground level? That seems like aviation 101 but what do i know

Navy minimum altitude for flyover is 1000 feet above ground level. Atlanta altitude (above sea level, per Wikipedia) is 1050 feet. See the issue with the flyover? If they hadn't left significant margin above the hard deck, the screw-up could have resulted in tragedy with significant loss of life.

Totally. Seem strange that all these guys do is fly planes and neither of them thought “you know, we’re coming in a little tight here…”

I was there and everyone around me said “what the fuck?!?” while holding their ringing ears.

Every few years the Chicago Air Show coincides with a Chicago Cubs homestand. When the planes come over Wrigley field everything stops. It happened this year. The game stopped and almost everyone, fans, players umpires, concession workers, broadcasters etc watched the show. The camera crew showed as much as they were able and some focused on the reaction on field and in the stands. Some shows are just much better than other shows and nobody wants to miss it.

Yep, I was up top too and they flew from behind my back and I instantly understood at least on some level what must be the terror of warfare. Definitely one of the most awesome/awe-inspiring moments I can recall that didn’t involve Nature or Nature’s God.

We must have been near each other. It came from over my head too. I turned to look right when they appeared and literally ducked and grabbed my head. Scared the shit out of me. I can still smell the exhaust.

Couldn’t hear the question but what was Claw talking about relating to equipment some player choose to wear?

Guardian Caps.

It's ... interesting, to me. Fall camp was the first time I saw WF players wearing the protective headgear -- basically helmet padding that's designed to reduce the effect of successive blows to the head. They're required in NFL training camp and practices with contact throughout the season.

Colleges are hit or miss. Look at pictures from some schools and you'll see every player other than QBs and kickers wearing them; others you'll see an even split of them; some you'll see none of them. Duke, for example, has every player wearing them other than QBs and kickers.

There were 6 WF players wearing them in the first practice and that number was down to 4 after a week. I wrote about it here. That Demond Claiborne quote at the end was [Bobby Portis EYEZ].

Since we've heard that a few of the absences in the first 3 games were because of concussions -- thanks, Thamel -- think it's fair to ask if more players are wearing them and if they should be required.

Of course, it proves the point that they're not 100% effective since Justice Ellison was wearing one throughout fall camp and missed the Vandy game with a concussion -- though there's also no confirmation he kept wearing it for practices during the week.
