Women's Volleyball

We went 2-2 against teams that are combined 10-2 against other ACC teams so far. We need to rack up wins against all the lower level teams
Yup - Cuse, BC, VPI, then a big one against State. Let's get the next three for sure.

There is a random match on Spectrum right now between Hawaii (1) vs UCLA (2) in men's. I don't know if its live because its on an obscure channel (2204), but these dudes are absolutely hammering the ball. It is amazing how hard ever serve and kill is. I wish they had a radar gun or something. UCLA has a 6'8 freshman that could probably touch the top of a backboard. The athleticism of all these guys is truly astounding given their size.

Watched a live professional beach volleyball match many years ago. Sat on a beach chair about 20 feet from the court. The size and athletic ability of the players was better than I have ever seen in any sport. Elite in every respect.

Olympic (indoor) volleyball was always one of my low key non-major event favorites growing up, mostly the men with Karch and Steve Timmons and those dudes, but the athleticism on both the men’s and women’s sides at the highest level is through the roof. I tried to watch more of both at the last summer games.

Trina Maso de Moya still one of the most impressive athletes I have seen regularly up close. One of our all-timers in any sport, and I know I’ve said that a million times, but whatever, the name and legend must live on.

I did not know she transferred to FAU to play soccer and played a season in the WUSA.
At FAU, Maso de Moya set six single season records including goals, points, shots, game-winning goals, consecutive games with a goal and consecutive games with a point in her only season.

She was like an all conference player, too!

Ah, yes, that link says that. Anyway, it’s ridiculous.

Huh never heard of her - we seriously had ACC player of the year in volleyball?

It helps that she was gorgeous. Hard to forget. I went to HS with Rocco Baldelli and he was a much better volleyball player than baseball player. His athleticism playing baseball was insane.

Nice job taking care of business. We have struggled in the first sets recently, but then really turned it on.

Gotta keep it up against VPI Wednesday.

I'm not going to pretend I know anything about the volleyball tournament/bubble, but I think we're in decent shape at this point to possibly get a bid. That would be great stuff from the team.

Tonight at 7 vs. VT on ACCNX (ESPN app)

Up 2-0 but VT started out 8-2 in the 3rd.

Deacs win 3-0 to get to 14-4 (5-2), best start to conference play since 2003. #26 in the RPI, fourth best among ACC teams.

Deacs play at State (#37 RPI) on Friday. They host #6 Louisville next Friday on Homecoming weekend.

FWIW, 64 teams make the NCAA Volleyball tourney.

Five ACC teams made the 2022 NCAAT. Not sure if the ACC is higher rated conference this year. but looks like the Deacs need to be top 5 or 6 in the ACC to get an at-large.

3-1 road loss at State.

Massey gives us a generous 1% chance tonight.

Still hoping for a great crowd and a surprising performance against a national championship contender.

7 p.m. game time!

Let's get 2/3 in the next week or so and put ourselves in shape to be picked.

We're 27th in the latest RPI and play in, what I think at least, is a loaded conference.
