2023 Pit Fantasy Football League - THE PLAYOFFS ARE SET

  • @TripleDeacon (8-5, 2nd overall points, vs. Edarem)
  • @YoungBuck95 (8-5, 10th overall points, vs. Sleepy)
  • @Satan (7-6, 7th overall points, vs. Peach)
    • One caveat is that Edarem could surpass Satan on points and get an 8-6 tiebreaker, but with current projections and considering Edarem's opponent, Satan is in with a win
WIN OR LOSE, NEEDS SOME HELP
  • @JamesSokolove (7-6, 8th overall points, vs. Triple)
    • Edarem beating Triple isn't enough on its own due to Triple owning a nearly unsurpassable points lead, meaning in the most straightforward route Edarem would need a victory + a YB loss OR winning a points tiebreaker over Satan and/or Lone Wolf if they both finish 8-6
    • Edarem can make it at 7-7 with a Satan loss and Lone Wolf loss and winning up to a 5-way points tiebreaker for the 8th seed. Edarem's current points would have him needing to beat Satan's Week 14 total by at least 5.81 points
  • @Wolf1297 (7-6, 13th overall points, vs. Fighting Cocks)
    • Wolf has a brutal points tiebreaker so the only realistic path for the 8th seed is a win + Satan loss + Edarem loss to get in at 8-6 with no tiebreakers needed
LIFE SUPPORT: MUST WIN & NEEDS LOTS OF HELP
  • @PhDeac (6-7, 9th overall points, vs. mako)
    • The easiest Week 14 matchup of any team in the mix goes to Ph, but even with a win, Ph would need lots of help to get into a tiebreaker for the 8th seed. Ph must win + Losses from Satan, Edarem, Wolf + make up points on all 7-7 teams to win the 8th seed tiebreaker
  • @BarcaDeac (6-7, 11th overall points, vs. Mrs. I/O)
    • Another easy Week 14 matchup, but Barca's hopes are nearly dead in the water as he is over 60 points down on the highest team that he would need to eclipse in points to make it on tiebreaker, an all-world fantasy performance is needed
 
It's actually pretty straightforward this year compared to last when there were a dozen different permutations for all the tiebreakers. The shift to overall points as the main tiebreaker was needed, but damn if I don't miss a little of the H2H chaos.
 
I mean barring an utterly insane collapse in the points tiebreaker, Triple is already in correct? The only scenario he isn't is Wolf and Satan winning and all of Wolf, Satan, and Edarem making up a >100 point deficit, which is functionally impossible.

This feels to me as though (realistically) 4 teams are competing for the last two spots, which is a surprisingly few number of teams still in contention considering how big this league is

Yes but I didn't want Ph coming in and saying, "But Triple hasn't clinched yet"
 
Also there aren't as many competing simply due to the points tiebreaker. It does look like there is a threshold where ESPN eliminates a team even if they are 6-7 because they wouldn't be able to make up the points (see: @DeacHawk). If it was still H2H, DeacHawk would be in with a real chance due to wins over Edarem, Wolf, YB, and Triple. Shit he might be a tiebreaker favorite at that point. But it's points now and we can't go back.

Yeah, interesting differences between the two methods. Points tiebreaker feels much more controllable, as opposed to losing to someone during your bye week hell and that loss costing you a playoff spot.

Also, given that there are three different 7-6 teams, it feels very likely that the 8th seed is 8-6. Adding in that two of the 7-6 teams currently win the points tiebreaker over all the 6-7 teams, I think the 6-7 teams are incredible longshots here
 
Ph is definitely making the playoffs and telling us how dumb ESPN's numbers are
 
It is pretty crazy that the 7-6 teams are facing off against the teams that are 2nd, 3rd, and 5th in points.

For a team in Ph's position, that's the best draw you could have ever even dreamed of

6-7 me is 52 points ahead of 6-7 Barca and 84 points ahead of 7-6 Wolf.

And I’m only 9.1 points behind 7-6 Satan and 3.3 points behind 7-6 Edarem.

So you can’t group me and Barca together. Longshot? Sure but it’s not unreasonable that the 7-6 team lose to better teams and I make up low margins against Satan and Edarem.

As far as your odds of making the playoffs, which is what this conversation is about, I absolutely can group you and Barca together. I think it's highly unlikely that either of you make the playoffs.

I mean ESPN only gives you a 65% chance of beating mako, and that number will go down if he checks his lineup and swaps in the now-healthy 1.01 draft pick for an injured WR. And beating mako is only step one of about five that need to happen in order for you to make the playoffs.
