Steve Forbes credibility watch

I don't want to think much more about that game, but the biggest takeaway to me is that I'm pretty sure we would have killed them if Efton had played 30 minutes instead of 15. Filipowski straight up couldn't guard Efton, and our defense was a million times better with Efton in the game.

Avoid the foul trouble and I feel pretty good that we can beat Duke in Winston.
I look forward to our collective exhaled expletives when we find out we are assigned Ted Valentine, Jamie Luckie, and Whistles McFoulinsmith for duke's visit to Winston.

Cam can also get to the rim better than almost anyone on the team. He missed his layups he usually makes, but he still got there.

I think I instinctively defend Cam all the time because he is so obviously a dude that is giving 100% effort every second he is on the floor. Cam isn't the most talented of our guards by any means, but he's the best of the bunch at pretty much anything that isn't directly related to scoring. There's a reason why Forbes asks him to guard the other team's best player so often.

Granted, the problem wasn't the Duke guards so much as it was that we had absolutely nobody to guard Mark Mitchell once Carr had to shift to the 5. Monsanto trying to do it was pretty terrible, although he clearly was doing the best he could given his current limitations.
Would have really helped us in terms of depth and versatility to have had Bobi come back this year.

This thread is sad and a depressing reminder as to how far the fan base has fallen over the past 25 years. I tried to tell everyone years ago that you can't keep changing out coaches like this over and over again within a short timeframe, and we're now seeing it's effects.

Mr. Wellman and many others within the AD understood this, and is why he did not make the changes as quick as some on here would like.

Maybe Steve Forbes is a long term answer here and maybe he's not, but we cannot make any more changes like this in the near term future. He's going to need at least three more years for both his sake and for the sake of bringing back some sense of stability to the program.

As a reminder, he is our fourth coach within a 10 year span...........

I am kind of curious why we didn't ever see Keller in order to keep Carr at the 4. Keller is obviously a (very) limited player, but he provides just as much as Marsh on the offensive end (nothing) and I think could have guarded Filipowski on the perimeter a lot better.

I guess Forbes wanted Monsanto's shooting in there, but letting Mitchell run wild without Carr guarding him is a major reason why we lost that game.

I'm sorry, your argument is that we changed coaches too quickly? Bzz and Manning should have gotten more time than they did?

He's just a very good defender and rebounder. Just because his shot isn't falling and people think he looks like shit, doesn't actually mean he does. His value is all over the court.

Welcome to the boards, Mr. Wellman.

I know we all hear he’s a good defender, but he has also gotten torched the past 2 games.

When you're guarding the other team's best player, that tends to happen.

Doesn't mean he isn't the best option we have.

Or have a credible backup option at PG (see: Ituka, Jao) without moving Sallis off the wing for more than a handful of plays when Boopie goes off the rails like he did last night

Seems like Keller has dropped off the rotation completely.

Injury or in the doghouse?

Is there a way to salvage Boopie or are we just seeing him implode against better competition? We sure could use a point guard who is more distributor than turn over machine.

At the end of the day, there were five critically important games to close this season. At Duke, At UVA, At VT, Duke, Clemson. Even going 2-3 in that stretch is probably good enough to get a bid, provided that we don't shit the bed anywhere else.

In what was the toughest game of those 5 (by far?), we played relatively poorly and still had a realistic chance to win. It's far too late in the season to be claiming moral victories, but that still gives me optimism that we have the capability to do what we need to in the next few weeks. Now we have to prove it.
