MBB Game 25: @UVA - Saturday Noon - ESPN2

First lines I'm seeing:

Wake +3.5 (+132 ML)
O/U 128.5

The game at the joel vs UVA was disgusting. Great win but disgusting bball. I have a feeling this is going to be worse.

Today's bracketmatrix has UVA in every one of the 103 brackets with average as an 8 seed. Currently Wake is in 10 of those brackets. If Wake is to win tomorrow, isn't there a real strong argument that Wake is the one with the better overall resume?

If Wake wins tomorrow Wake is 6-8 against Q1 and Q2 teams with 1 Q1 win. UVA would be 6-6 combined with a loss tomorrow and 2 Q1 wins. Wake is ahead of UVA in all metrics (Torvik, KP, NET). I think it's at least a conversation as to who has the better resume at that point...

of course, yes, except that the arbitrary Quad system exists

I know head to head doesn't really matter to the committee, but a sweep has to mean something, right?

at this point UVA has played 5 games against Louisville/GT/Notre Dame

Say what you will about the strength of the ACC...there are obviously three minnows in the conference, and UVA's played them.

UVA can certainly build their resume relative to WF's by beating WF, and by beating one or both of Duke/UNC (UVA hasn't played either yet), but if WF wins tomorrow?

WF will have played a better schedule with similar results. UVA's advantage will have been:

1. Florida on a neutral floor instead of home;
2. a 1-point win at Clemson (which is obviously a resume piece I wish we had); and
3. 5 games against the bottom of the ACC

My only contribution to this thread is this - don’t start Reid tomorrow. Put Matt out there for four minutes and sub Efton in at the TV TO. If we were playing a high octane offense I may feel differently, but the way UVA plays…it’s got early foul trouble written all over it for Reid.

Great idea. Unfortunately, it will never happen because of unknown reasons.

Since possessions are at a premium, please no out-of-control drives by Cam or Boopie, without some kind of ability to reset. I'm still perplexed as how UVA sits atop the conference, despite a horrible start. That's gotta be Bennett?

I mean it's not going to happen because he's the best big on the team, the team is considerably better when he's on the floor, playing your best players when the other team is also playing their best players early in the game is going to be one of the best leverage spots to use them (especially considering the defensive skill set Efton brings), he's much better than any of his backups, UVA plays a slower pace so there are fewer possessions in the game to foul out on, and Forbes understands all of this.

"Unknown reasons" is one hell of a way to explain away the obvious answer to "why is a team starting their best big man on the road in a game that's critical to how their postseason success is concerned."

Only three guys have fouled out in ACC play against UVA: a backup who got 5 fouls in 14 minutes for Louisville and then two FSU guys, one of whom committed their fifth foul intentionally down the stretch to put UVA on the line.

I think it's going to be fine. UVA is exactly the team you want Reid in there against from the get go. UVA gets to the line at a rate in the bottom 25 in the country.

Also the last game we played against UVA they took:

12 threes
31 mid range shots
14 shots around the rim

It's hard to even foul out as a big if the other team only gets 14 shots around the rim.
