MBB Game 28: @ ND - Tuesday 9 pm - ACCN

Yeah. I wasn’t trying to say anything other than it is explicable that we are so good at home and so bad on the road, even against bad teams like BC.

chuckle

Well, what can I say aside from the fact that those of us that have been around for a while should be used to this by now, I guess?

In 1995 I was dead set on buying tickets to the Final 4, because I was convinced we were definitely going to win it all that year after winning the ACCT. 2000 I earmarked four separate trips to W-S off (after just moving to Florida), after watching the Kansas drubbing. I made the shorter road trip to FSU in 2005 after that great win over the Tarholes. Despite my loathing for Dino Gaudio, I invited friends over to watch the VT game in 2009 (another short lived #1 ranking) on a newly purchased 60" TV.

The Wake life for many of us that have been around for a while is just schizophrenic.

We have our highs which is immediately followed by lows.

Thanks for sharing. I suspect we all have a half dozen stories like this to share!

Has there ever been a season where the fanbase feels like we played to or above our potential? Since 1999, I’m going to say maybe 2003 season, although we flamed* out post-season even then.

I'd say the 01-02 season for sure.
You’re right. We almost won that second game too. Craig got hurt and was still going off right? Also to show how old I am, I was home for spring break listening to this on my home computer which was the only way to get it in my area.

Hope the loss stays Q2. Can’t play Boopie in crunch time if he’s a choker at the FT line
Put Boopie at the FT line at the end of practice and make the team run gassers until he makes 10 straight

Need to stop the pattern of him missing FTs late in games

It’s wild because he’s a good FT shooter. I guess he’s just exhausted at the end of games

Yeah most people predicted us as NIT bound if I remember correctly. Josh Howard, Darius, and Craig Dawson were all incredible that season.

Absolutely. We weren’t picked as a tournament team preseason in 2003 and won the conference regular season. Only bigger ‘pleasant surprise season’ I can think of is the orange bowl.

The sunshine brigade on twitter infuriates me almost as much as losing these games. “Only a Q2 so doesn’t do much damage” “just go 2-1 down the stretch and we should be safe”. It’s like they don’t even acknowledge the issues with this team on the road, especially blowing leads and second half meltdowns.

I fell asleep at halftime and we were ahead. I'll just assume the game concluded with us winning.

They don't acknowledge how difficult these losses make it. If we had won a few of these road games we'd be firmly in. Yeah, we can still make it, but all of these losses add up and now we have our backs against the wall and have to win a lot.

I don't really have a problem with the end of game coaching. Hunter got a great look and he's your best player.

My bigger issue was with the run ND went on when we couldn't score. The whole game felt like our biggest advantage was with our big men. And Reid and Carr didn't get enough looks during that drought. Looked at stats, Reid was 4-5 for 12 points and 10 boards. Incredibly efficient. Carr was 5-9 for 12 points. Those guys needed more opportunities during the drought.

Also, Cam got lit the eff up last night. For being our best defender, man, he got smoked.

They are right that it probably doesn’t do much damage. Even Lunardi admitted as much. The bigger issue is whether everyone is just going to be satisfied by making the tournament. Personally, I’d like to have a chance once we get there but I see no way this team wins a game outside the Joel.
