Who wouldn't? I'm talking about doing a proper job search for a change. Hell, does Wellman have a brother-in-law who is down on his luck?

I have been calling Rick Barnes to Wake since last year. This is perfect.

Shaka
Stevens
Mooney
Kelsey (after bzz gets retained for 2 more years)
Alford
Bobby Lutz - too soon?
The real Buzz at Marquette
Danny Hurley
Bryce Drew

I know everyone loves Wes Miller - but I will never endorse a Tar Heel to coach Wake Forest even if his dad was Samuel Wait.

I still think it may make it LESS likely Wes Miller ever coaches at Wake because of his family's connections.

If we were to get rid of Buzz, this is who I would guess would get a serious look:

Marshall
McDermott, although his one foray into major conferences was not impressive at Iowa State
Dave Paulsen
Brett Reed
Keith Dambrot
Bryce Drew (would he really leave his alma mater, and is it too soon to look at him anyway with just 1 year of experience?)

I'm sure we'd ask Shaka, but I just don't see it happening. Just like with Stevens the last time around.

Take a look at Reed's background. He has local ties, as an assistant at High Point and UNCG, he's done really nice things at Lehigh, and he's a freaking PhD. It would give PhDeac someone to talk to about the finer points of basketball coaching and educational attainment.

Yup. It's a position no AD would want to be in. Who wants to have to potentially fire the son of one of your biggest financial contributors?

Yeah, that Lehigh dude seemed like Wellman's kind of guy. That said, I think folks need to understand Wellman's track record, which is that he is absolutely going to go for what he perceives to be the least risky possible hire. No hotshot assistants. No up-and-coming coaches with small career sample sizes.

Personally, I hope Wellman (or whoever makes the next hire) understands that in college basketball, particularly at a school not far from UNC and Duke, your coach needs to be a salesman and a fighter. Skip had that quality. Gottfried has that quality. [Redacted] does not.

He'd have to give up moonlighting as the Green Hornet though. It cuts into recruiting time.

Bingo.
