2023-2024 NCAA Men's Basketball Thread

Front Burns. Make State pass over the top to get the ball into his hands. He can't score if he can't get the basketball. He doesn't move without the ball so fronting him should be
straight forward. Double off the lob overhead, attacking the dribble that will come. The hard part of fronting is keeping your hands high to make yourself the biggest obstacle as possible. Maybe Keller or Reid is nimble enough to front then reposition if the lob is too difficult to intercept.

Bill Walton was the best that I recall fronting on defense. He could keep his hands up for an entire game and was rarely challenged. If the opponent made the successful pass, he was quick enough to reposition and challenge/block the shot. Bill Russell was good at this as well.

Personally, I do not see that Wake needs to drastically alter their entire game plan because of Burns. Wake only needs to hold him to his averages.
Burns does shoot 53% from the field but he only averages 12.5 points, 4.44 rebounds, and 62% on free throws in 27 minutes per game. None of these numbers are at the top of the league. Also, he is no great defender. He has only blocked 11 shots all year and, as a comparison, Reid has already blocked 19 shots.

I think we are all just shellshocked from Burns’ performance against us last year.
100%. Crazy how much this Board is fixated on DJ Burns. Agree he gets more out of his flabby frame that one would expect, but he's averaging 12 ppg and 4 rpg against a very soft NC State schedule; Burns' numbers further deflate in ACC play where he's averaging 3 rpg which is horrendous for a big. He's big reason why the Pack have been 'meh' this year.

Then call me crazy for being more concerned about how Burns plays against Wake rather than the rest of his schedule. This year's numbers are about the same as last year and last year Burns had 31/9/1/2/2 on 14-26 fg at Wake and 21/6/1/2 on 8-11 fg at State. He scored over 18 four times and two were against Wake.

UCONN is the new #1. First time UCONN has risen to #1 during the season since 2009. Oddly, the Huskies have won three nattys since then, but were never ranked #1. Zags ranked steak ends at 143 weeks. UNC up to #4 (also one of 4 teams to receive a first place vote).

NC State is tied for 2nd in the ACC and Burns is arguably their best player, 2nd in scoring and rebounding. Last year Wake fans thought Marsh's size alone was enough to stop him - he couldn't even slow him down. Now you have posts saying Keller can defend him. The fans seriously worried about Burns make a hell of a lot more sense than those who refuse to recognize him as a legit ACC player.

Both of these teams beat UVA at home by similar margins and via dominant guard play. The Burns/Reid matchup could definitely be the deciding factor.

Agree with all of that (except WF’s 1 through 4 is better than NC State; so, the game may not comedown to Reid v Burns). That said, Burns isn’t even close to the top of the list of ACC bigs. UNC has two bigs way better than Burns, Clemson, Miami, Duke, BC, and VT all have better post scorers than Burns and WF can beat all of those teams. Just feel like we as a fanbase are scarred after DJ’s career games against WF.

ND up at half on the road at BC. ND really has been a different team since The Citadel took them to the woodshed.

the other thing that jumps out is how many more games/seasons [Redacted] coached than the other dumpster fires
