5-1 would be excellent. I expect us to stub our toe at least once with two road games and a pesky UVA team.
Couple questions. Where did our fan base get the idea The Joel cannot be turned into a college basketball palace when there are at least two renowned companies who exist to do just that. In addition why isn't just some quirky view of one mile of geography to assert Deacon Blvd is not part of the Wake Campus when the medical school and the downtown campus don't need to be moved. It's fucking stupid. Wake Forest is a multi billion dollar asset to the city of Winston Salem. To assert a reconstructed arena a mile from Magnolia hall is not on campus is ridiculous. And folks want to say the Joel is too far from campus
That didn't happen in the 60's and early 70's. Only once the arithmetic of more tickets sold minus cost of renting Greensboro Coliseum became greater than total ticket sales from War Memorial Coliseum minus cost of renting WMC.We played our important ACC games in Greensboro so...

made one appearance in the poll in 09-10 at #23, week of 2/13/10.When is the last time we were ranked in the AP Top 25?
We moved the majority of our ACC home games to Greensboro following the 1981 season; we played most of our ACC games (and a few non-conference games) there until the LJVM opened in 1989. I don't think that they tore down the old coliseum until the Joel was ready to be opened. That's what they did when they built the LJVM. The old memorial coliseum is where the parking lot is now. Although they may have razed the coliseum first, which was why we had to play in Greensboro for a year?
Jesus. Really? That's worse than Rutgers football, which has always been my gold standard for poll futility.made one appearance in the poll in 09-10 at #23, week of 2/13/10.
The problem has always been that there is no easy way to walk from main campus to the Joel - there must be ways to make it easier. The board joke of the monorail would be ideal but it looks like that is not happening. Maybe an easier walking path to University and then a pedestrian bridge? It wasn't and isn't the physical distance. It is the psychological distance. The Joel is on the other side of University Parkway. There is a bunch of non-Wake businesses between campus an the Joel. There hasn't been a complete sidewalk path from campus buildings to the Joel. There is only one safe place to cross University.
Fixing these would help integrate the sports campus area and the Reynolda Campus.
Medical campus is irrelevant to this issue.
Like Tracy with the Honda? That didn't happen in the 60's and early 70's. Only once the arithmetic of more tickets sold minus cost of renting Greensboro Coliseum became greater than total ticket sales from War Memorial Coliseum minus cost of renting WMC.
Also, Tracy in later years, liked having the team play Greensboro Coliseum so it wasn't a new place at ACC Tournament time.
As noted earlier, Wake was minority partner in the original design and construction. Wake got priority for the ~20 days it needed (men's basketball, graduation contingency). The city set the size as a multi purpose facility. Concerts, tractor pulls etc.
Yep. And once we are ranked, more people will pay more attention to the details of our season. We are undefeated with our current team of eligible players. That may become a talking point in our favor.Yeah if we get two more this week then I think we will crack the polls. Just keep winning and it will take care of itself. Nice to get some recognition lately online and from some of the talking heads at halftime of other games.
Forbes smartly taking advantage of the bully pulpit with the attention from the Miami win to put that out into the ether.Yep. This is correct, I believe. Memorial Coliseum was as described, though the smoke hanging in the rafters (and upper level seats) would not be a problem today since smoking would not be allowed inside. Primary reason for moving was that the lighting made TV very difficult in Memorial Coliseum. It was an old building in 1981.We moved the majority of our ACC home games to Greensboro following the 1981 season; we played most of our ACC games (and a few non-conference games) there until the LJVM opened in 1989.
