2024 FB Schedule News

In that scenario, the AAC would effectively lose their championship game and the revenue that comes with it. And that would be even worse if the AAC Championship Game ever goes to a neutral location.
So just move the game up a week to the normal AAC title game slot, take the massive ratings boost that comes with it, and cancel the game a week later. This isn’t brain surgery.

So all the people who make their reservations years in advance for "America's Game" have to shuffle their plans and book tickets for West Point or Annapolis a week earlier? The next three Army-Navy games are slated for DC, Baltimore, and East Rutherford. Seems like someone would have to pay a huge cancellation fee to those stadiums.

Look, the prospect of two teams playing back to back weeks is ridiculous but it's a possibility for any team that plays a conference opponent to end the regular season. As long as Army-Navy gets their own special Saturday to themselves, there will be a weird scheduling quirk.

Cuse/Army is officially off for next season. Looking more likely that we keep Army on the schedule unfortunately.

If it ever does come down to those 2, they need to make America’s game for the conference title as well. Playing 2 weeks in a row would be incredibly stupid. Who cares if the AAC champ gets decided a week later than the others.
The college football playoff is announced the Sunday after all the championship games and the AAC without a doubt (especially in the 12 team era) wants their title game concluded prior to that. They're not going to push the playoff announcement back a week solely for this reason.

Not as big a deal this year, but Navy would have missed out on a bowl this year even if they'd beaten Army because all bowl spots were taken by the time this game took place (including a 5-7 Minnesota who would have gotten in over 6-6 Navy).

And it doesn't really matter because Army-Navy will never meet for the title
Definitely a long shot but, if it ever did happen, it would really suck. Imagine trying to build up the Army-Navy game as the big deal that it is rightfully so after only the week before they played for a conference title and if the winner of that title game was going to the playoff, would the winner even want to play again the next week?

They would want to play.

So by my count, Army now needs to cut two of these 4 games for next year (I assume Air Force won't be cut):

8/31 vs Lehigh
10/19 @ UNLV
11/9 @ UMass
11/16 vs Wake Forest

So what are the odds the game remains on the schedule? The 11/16 date is right in the middle of conference play, which would seem difficult to find an adequate replacement. We might have to play a transitioning school like Kennesaw State worst case. Somebody has to decide soon. Interesting scramble given that most games are scheduled 15 years in advance, and we don't even know with 100% certainty who we are playing next year.

Looks to me like they keep the WF home game and dump the terrible FCS team and the two road trips to play bad teams

Yep. Don’t see them cutting a P4 home game, especially with their AD connections to us.

Didn’t Army change their offense this year and get rid of the option with cut blocks that drove us crazy? Is there some other reason we don’t want to play them now?

Army still runs the same offense. They adjusted away from cut blocks.

The problem with playing Army is that, over the last eleven seasons, WF has played Army (7 times) more than any other NCAA Team except for the six other teams in the Atlantic Division and WF's natural rival Duke. WF has played Army more often than UNC, UVA, VT or GT. More than it has played all of the other non-ACC FBS teams in NC, SC and VA combined.

Why? OOC games are precious. They are the only chance WF has the discretion to choose its opponent and bring a little variety to its schedule; draw fans; draw TV ratings. It's great that WF has a home and home with Ole Miss over the next two years. Even playing App or Tulane a couple times every ten years is compelling. As it currently stands, WF is set to play Army the next three seasons (two at Army -- not sure what is up with that). If so, WF will have played Army 10 times in 15 seasons. Pointless. WF has been there and done that over and over again.

Other than natural OOC rivalries (like FSU/UF, KY/L'ville, Clemson/S. Carolina, Iowa/Iowa State), you never see two teams play each other in OOC games as often as WF has scheduled Army. Really shows a total lack of imagination, against an opponent where WF has more to lose than it does to gain.

Why not have them play early?

Good point, and interesting how conference games against "national" brands like Miami, FSU and ND lose their luster after we've been there 1 time and they likewise to W-S. The 1st time ND came here was a huge deal as was our 1st trip to South Bend, but now it's pretty much just about the game itself vs. the wow-factor of seeing those Golden Domes on our field. Just b/c of the one-off uniqueness of it, having the Cornhuskers at our stadium that one time along with their fans (and the heat along with the lack of water that day...#never forget) still seems more of an event to me than does the appearance of any other team in recent memory.

Army Navy are never going to move their game as the last regular season matchup of the year. They value that slot, time, and game over everything else and rightfully so since it seems to be THE major driving storyline for the two programs. They wouldn't have both agreed to even join the conference if that had to move and they sure as hell aren't moving it to the start of the year. Over the last few years I believe both teams have missed out on bowls by having the game scheduled when it was and they don't really care since their season is a success if they beat their rival. Also, Navy would have "missed out" on getting to play Bowling Green the day after Christmas in like Detroit so I doubt they care...at all.

Just read that Army is going back to the triple option offense, so all the more reason the game sucks (though at least still can’t cut block)

Delaware is moving up to FBS. Annoying that Delaware announces this before WF.
