Banning Critical Race Theory

Pretty solid research out there about how healthcare providers treat black patients differently than white ones with the same signs and symptoms. Especially when it comes to pain management. Much higher incidence of providers not believing black patients’ pain is real, assuming they are drug seeking, etc. tons of unconscious bias seeps into pain management.

And that's how the col stops engaging on a topic.

Funny how people who don’t believe Black pain is real don’t believe doctors don’t believe Black pain is real.

Imagine Jesus looking away from someone in pain and not helping. Now think about republican policy objectives. There's a big difference.

You’re not thinking about Republican Jesus though. Republican Jesus hates the poor, loves people who profit from the church, and really hates people who aren’t white.

That's fair. I guess the prosperity gospel needed to teach 'mericans that old testament jesus was cooler than kind, hippie, loving, nerd jesus. That jesus makes money!

Yeah I’m good with anybody that doesn’t have an educational degree, advanced knowledge of a topic or specialization in the multiple aspects of educating others to take a seat and shut the fuck up, outside of a specific problem with their child and only their child’s ability to learn which does not include educational topics. It’s a continuation of anti-intellectualism in this country which has found footing in pretty much everything. It’s the equivalent to the same loud dumb dumbs that’s come into a hospital wanting to dictate their medical treatment

LOL, maybe you’re not familiar with who’s actually been elected to the local school board.

School boards have been part of the problem with anti-intellectualism for a long time.

BBD - Thanks for the link to the opinion piece from the associate professor with the school's Center for Health Equity, Diversity and Inclusion. The editor's note "The opinions expressed by the author do not necessarily reflect the opinions of the AAMC or its members" was interesting as well.

“Black people’s nerve endings are less sensitive than white people’s.” “Black people’s skin is thicker than white people’s.” “Black people’s blood coagulates more quickly than white people’s.”

These disturbing beliefs are not long-forgotten 19th-century relics. They are notions harbored by far too many medical students and residents as recently as 2016. In fact, half of trainees surveyed held one or more such false beliefs, according to a study published in the Proceedings of the National Academies of Science. I find it shocking that 40% of first- and second-year medical students endorsed the belief that “black people’s skin is thicker than white people’s.”

Had no idea so many medical students and residents were racist fucksticks! Perhaps I set the bar too high but expected more scienc-ing from our experts in science. Oh well.

And still waiting for one of the Tunnels' physicians to weigh in on the original statement - "It's not a norm for the physician to care properly" for black people

American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynocology:

Despite reporting higher average pain scores, NH Black women did not receive higher quantities of MME. NH Asian women received lower quantities of MME despite reporting similar pain scores to NH White women. These differences suggest disparities in post-operative pain management for women in these minority populations.

Thanks!! Again - Had no idea our scientists and medical providers were such virulent racists when it comes to pain management

You should look up racial disparities in the justice system, housing system, labor systems, education system, and so on. You'd be surprised. Systematic racism is real.

You can't be surprised when you don't want to believe it. Snowflakes don't want to come to terms with America's racist past so they certainly can't accept its racist present. Just dragging us down a dirt road kicking that can so nothing ever changes.

In the 120 year history, not a single Nobel prize in medicine or science has been awarded to a black person. The halls of science have long been filled with racist (and sexist) white men. It is changing, I believe, but there are centuries of bias to overcome.
