BillBrasky Memorial Political Chat Thread

on a related note, you think the next president will rip out the Presidential toilet(s)? I can't imagine sitting on the same one Trump did for 4 (8?) years straight.

You're gonna replace a solid gold toilet?

I think it would make for interesting political fantasy fiction to imagine a Republican administration centered in a Republican cultural center. The turnout for the inauguration could have been massive, the military parade is probably much more successful. Who knows what kinds of terrible stupid shit Trump gets away with in Texas that he doesn't in DC.

Just watch North Korean state TV and write a novel based on what you see, just have to change the names.

Obviously I was a child for all of his Presidency but I seem to remember one common criticism of GWB was exactly that

Yep. Jokes about clearing brush at his ranch.

Melania’s rose garden destruction is awful by symbolic. It’s a few whites and a whole lot of green, the goal of Republican economic policy.

An examination of Batman within the context of modern policing

His critique of Batman in the context of modern policing is good. His Batman fanfic is awful. The Superman one he links from June is worse.

Superman is pretty easy to place in a modern political context. Unaccompanied immigrant minor who comes to the US. Rural farm boy who moves to the big city. Journalist who takes on corrupt big business and politicians. He's a fish out of water who harnesses incredible power and takes on the burdens of the world. I think part of the obsession with making him evil is white male writers who can't identify with Clark Kent as the little guy and idenify with the villain.

Batman is a quite a bit more difficult for the reasons he stated. The new trailer for The Batman looks like it's going to be Batman taking on corrupt cops and politicians and The Riddler is doing the same. We'll see if it gets into these issues.

Riddler is the best Batman villain specifically because it is a true battle of wits and Batman has to think his way out of highly complex problems. I am hopeful that the new Batman explores that but the trailer does not suggest they will.

Just watched Batman Forever this weekend and man did they just absolutely shit on any potential for suspense. Batman just out loud solves all 3 Riddler clues in the film immediately as he opens them, and Alfred/Dr. Chase just say "oh yeah, that's right". It's like I get that the vibe of the Schumacher films was supposed to be lighter, but he just completely stepped on the whole premise of the character. How are you gonna have a scene showing Edward Nygma meticulously glueing together the clues from cut up magazines, and then not have any build up to solve them. Ridiculous.

A fan already solved one of the coded riddles in the trailer.

Did "Obama" really say "render unto Caesar" to that "taxpayer?"

That was Jesus' response to religious leaders who asked him a gotcha question about taxes.

yes, it's right at home with the religious/conservative symbolic economy baybeeee

I'm just ready for the GOP to go all-in embracing that they're the villains.

We've seen conservatives meme their ideas into Darth Vader, Thanos, etc. That video was a sketch in which Obama quoted Jesus who they claim is their hero.

I read a really good article a few months ago about how Republicans follow traditional villain tropes. They're just trying to avoid the end of the movie when the villains get caught.

Democrats: "We cant elect Bernie, the Republicans know he is a socialist, but they can't prove Joe Biden is a socialist".
Republicans: Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are *more* socialist than Bernie Sanders.

Very excited for the Dems to launch their "Joe Biden definitely isn't a socialist" counter-measures. They should be super effective.

note: not a sour grapes post about Bernie, just remarking how stupid it is for Dems to fight the socialist label with logic

How are they fighting the socialist label aside from Biden presenting his policy positions?

It’s a simple case of conservative political tenets conflicting with actual Christian ones. And typically “winning” the hearts, minds, and souls of Republicans. If their passion had a name it would be irony. Or tragedy.

So trumpublicans are cheering on lady liberty covered in blood. That's pretty much on brand so... no surprise I guess.
