Wait, wasn't Maduro's re-election pretty fucking sketchy?

I'd like to go on record and say that authoritarian socialist leaders can get fucked too.

Yeah. I don't know why we have to pick a side here. The US left defending Maduro just verifies the right's "What about Venezuela?" hysteria.

what I don't quite understand from the moderate Dems on here is what they consider to be an appropriate means for progressives to advance their pursuit of universal healthcare, environmental regulations, etc.

if their advice is to shut up and vote for the Democrats because the alternative is worse, what are the times and places for pushing for these things?

I can answer your question - primaries. There is always going to be some Republican lagoon creature that conveniently raises the existential stakes beyond ideology. Every election will be the most important election and require unquestioning unity. Anything less than full support for the establishment will be racist and privileged, until mercifully we all succumb to death by climate disaster

I'm sensing this is sarcasm, but yes.

I wasn't - it's the only moment during an election cycle where inter-party disagreement is even semi-acceptable.

Ok. It’s not a moment. It’s most of the process in presidential and Senate elections.

Tensions are a little high on The Tunnels this morning.

Probably doesn’t help calm things when people draw equivalencies between being uncomfortable at dinner and getting shot by an All Lives Matter domestic terrorist.

Protest all you want, just don't scream at me from six inches away while I'm eating dinner. If you read the quotes from the lady they were yelling at, she said she had been active in recent marches but didn't feel like rasing a fist for Black Power at the time, and sure as hell didn't feel like being coerced to do so. It's like Joan of Arc all over again.

Yeah, let them eat cake.

This incident reminds me of the time I was eating dinner on the plaza of an office buiding on a Saturday night in March a few years ago. My partner and I were enjoying a nice evening, when the annual St Patrick's Day bar crawl ended, right down the street from us. While we weren't attacked, there was a lot of ruckus, screaming, barfing, fighting, and near nudity from people you didn't really want to see nude. No one should be subjected to that kind of thing when you're just eating dinner. Don't get me wrong, I, like the woman in DC, had participated in the activities unfolding before me in the past, but just wasn't in the mood at that point in time.
