Brandon Childress Commits!!!

Why does it matter where Brandon is ranked, other than perhaps for his pride?(if he even cares). Everyone knows he is a baller in his own right. And he appears to have his dad's moxie and love of WFU. It's tough to walk in a father's footsteps but he seems ready for the challenge. This is a great thing for the recovery of our program IMO.

It matters because it helps build the perception in the minds of other recruits that our program is heading the right direction.

And it shows the college basketball landscape that recruiting has improved and we aren't just taking legacies who aren't high caliber recruits.

for those not as in tune w/ recruiting, what is the relationship with Brandon and other recruits?

Rankings matter. As crazy as it sounds, I even know some older adults that brag about where they fall in their state's industry rankings. It's a big deal.

In general you are correct. This is not in general. It's a very specific case with unique implications. Brandon's ranking is totally irrelevant here.

It matters because, more often than not, higher ranked players are better than lower ranked players. And it's always nice when our players are, you know, good, regardless of whether we really really like their dad or not.

What? No it isn't.

It's not relevant, because he's part of attempted package deal with Harry Giles. They are best friends. Harry is close to the Childress family.

It's also not relevant due to his dad being a coach. It's like Alford's son at UCLA.

There's a big difference between:

Wake Forest signs Randolph Childress' son

and

Wake Forest signs highly touted guard Brandon Childress

The rating makes it clear this isn't purely a favor to a legend. It's a verbal from a legit player and one step toward bringing Wake basketball back.

Childress' ranking matters because we have lots of spaces in that 2016 class. If other prospects (not named Harry Giles and Kwe Parker) see our commitment list and see a 4* player already on it, they'll be more inclined to join up. The ranking is good insurance in case the rest of WCA decides to go elsewhere.

Plus, from what i've seen, he definitely deserves it. We were gonna take him regardless for obvious reasons, but it's refreshing to know that experts have evaluated him as a talented player.

I don't know why people are so resistant to the idea that rankings matter.

who told you this directly

So what if we don't get Giles? Would it be relevant then?

with multiple publications. he's kind of a big deal.

Especially since we have plenty of evidence at Wake that they do matter.
