Conference Expansion: Stanford, California and SMU Join the ACC

I really don’t understand why anyone would be interested in this NFL-lite. A bunch of leagues have tried to fill that gap and failed. I hope this all crashes and burns.

“By January 2023, there was a “Leave ACC” budget model. Its commentary is partially redacted, but conference payouts spike from $43 million in 2025 to $96.4 million the next year.”

Seems a bit optimistic.

Private Equity mostly taketh. Hope they royally fuck over the Noles like they do everything else.
Very much looking forward to some vulture equity firm of econ frat bro Peter Theil worshippers mortgaging off Doak Campbell and filing for bankruptcy when the first payment comes due. Selling off the FSU athletics program for scrap at an auction.

Historically, college athletics have had the fellow student/alum tie between players and fans. In theory, the players walk the same sidewalks and hallways that fabs/alums walked. If players become mere employees, that connection may go away over time.

If players are emoyees, how does the NCAA (or any entity) limit the number of years an athlete can participate in "college" athletics?

Thought this was a really good look at how NIL is working right now from a guy who manages multiple school NIL funds. It's an OU podcast, so some of it has to do with specific OU stuff, but most of it is general NIL talk-- how they assess a player's value, tampering, etc...

Why would they want to? The limit is if the player isn't generating revenue.

If the players become that detached from the universities, then the bonds will slowly slip away. "NCAA" football will become the next USFL. Schools will want compensation for use of the school name, mascot, colors etc.

The gentleman being interviewed is the CEO of Student Athlete NIL - which runs Roll The Quad as well.

Looks like much of that plan falls apart if the Big Ten doesn’t invite FSU.

How can FSU borrow against future media revenue from the B1G if part of them leaving the ACC means the ACC gets that money? Or does part of the buyout include them retaining their B1G media money?

The PE firm that gets involved can figure it out when they're pulling the copper out of the walls in Tallahassee
