Conference Expansion: Stanford, California and SMU Join the ACC

Depends on the reduction. With the buyout and retaining the rights of FSU and Clemson it could boost everyone’s payout fairly significantly.
It definitely would not do that, would make no sense for ESPN to agree to a deal where that is the end result.

Exactly. This is a horrible deal for the ACC. It would likely be contingent upon the other schools staying. But it's time to say FU to ESPN as they've largely been dictating these leagues. And were likely a large factor in the ACC Network never being good. The Big 10 and SEC went outside ESPN and created their own networks. They won. We slept with ESPN and they screwed us.

The SEC didn’t go outside of ESPN to create the SECN.

both the SECN and ACCN are operated out of Charlotte because that's where ESPNU is based

This is crazy that a tv network is brokering the deal. (Not so much if you consider the craziness that happened during the final CFP rankings). I guess next up is throwing undesirable schools out of the SEC and BIG conferences.

That's a terrible deal for the ACC and will guarantee that Virginia and UNC will immediately be moving to the Big Ten and others will be looking to the Big XII as well. The ACC brand will survive, but the remaining schools will be like Oregon State and Washington State and their ownership of the Pac-12. Florida State and Clemson leaving for free by winning their lawsuits is a big risk, but granting them an exit will guarantee that others will follow suit.

This is also a giant bluff by ESPN. ESPN isn't going to void the GOR - they know that the cost of live sports is only going to continue going up AND allowing the ACC out of the GOR early allows the ACC to better synchronize with the other power conferences for when their collective GORs all come up and would further increase the amount that ESPN has to pay. How much would FOX, CBS, or NBC be willing to pay for the ACC rights in a few years? Not as much as the Big Ten or the SEC, but significantly more than ESPN is currently paying and likely more than the Big XII would be able to offer as well.

You all are crazy lol, ESPN has all the leverage, and they aren’t going to double our entire conference media rights contract just to keep Clemson and FSU out of the Big 10. The ACC is cooked without a long term tv deal.

This isn't true. These media deals by Fox and ESPN were atrocious and will never happen again. The SEC deal may literally bankrupt ESPN.

My hope with the guarantee until 2036 would simply be outlasting the Big 12 and taking all of those schools.
