China took more action than we did and faster.

there was an attempt to sweep it under the rug (to put it mildly)

then they shut down the province and built a hospital in 10 days

so, their inaction hurt, and then they sprung into action

KY doesn't deserve the distilleries, horse racing, and great college basketball they have.

A few more stats. The global death rate for the pandemic is now over 6% of documented cases. Keep in mind there is no way China has disclosed the full extent of their cases or offered an accurate death rate. In fact, the openly refuse to count cases with mild symptoms as a case. And they are claiming a death rate of under 4% (which, interestingly, has been ticking up mildly in recent days). That does not equate. Nor have they been able to fully explain how suddenly they reported 21 million fewer cell phone subscribers across January and February. Not saying anything approaching even half of those are Covid related but that is a massive move in the opposite direction of all their trends.

The US right now has a death rate of under 3% but I expect that to ramp towards where Europe is as ventilator capacity erodes in the coming days. Pretty much every country I am tracking in Europe is seeing their death rate climb. For instance, two days ago Austria was touting a .4% death rate and today it is 1.10%. They had a record number of new cases yesterday. You get where many countries are heading in that regard. Germany is now at 1% after being lower than .4%. Spain is almost 12%. The ability to keep that death rate low is very dependent on the availability of medical supplies.

To be fair though, the death rate seems like it would be erroneous regardless as there have to be tons of asymptomatic cases who are never tested, as well as a great deal of cases where the afflicted simply self quarantine and treat on their own, then get better without testing. So it seems disingenuous to suggest that 1 out out every 10 people with the virus in Spain are dying.

I'll say this. Both Dr. Fauci and Dr. Birx have been smart in attempting to answer questions without directly calling out Trump. I think they both realize that if they embarass Trump, they're gone or minimized and they both know the stakes are too high at this immediate time. I get that we've argued about this in other situations, i.e. saying generals should just resign and call it out all out. But the circumstances seem a little different here. Dr. Birx has to know he's an idiot. But she's answering here on the 700 Club.

This is probably the correct take. First make the assumption that around 30% of the cases are asymptomatic, that could be considered conservative on by some estimates and extreme by other estimates so we will consider it average. So if you have lets say 100,000 cases in the United States you actually have 142,857 cases. Now the one factor that is being calculated in all of this that's considered concrete is deaths but even that is going to depend on how you count deaths and attribute it to COVID-19. So you have an inaccurate numerator and an inaccurate denominator. Throw in that testing while ramping up is still considered extremely lacking. Being so far behind means that as the case count grew exponentially you will never be ahead so the denominator is probably even significantly greater than asymptomatic. Once serological testing is implemented it will shrink the mortality rate substantially but its more of an epi question than anything else because it doesnt really matter to a person already dead.

And there was an effort by our government to sweep it under the rug. Still waiting for our government to spring into action months later.

Yes, essentially they tried to cover it up for political reasons. Then, once they realized the severity of the situation, they had an ideal response.

Meanwhile, in the U.S., they tried to cover it up, then had a crappy response of continuing to minimize the danger.

Over 1500 deaths in the US now. We passed 150 deaths 9 days ago.

Some of his casinos were BKed when other AC properties were booming.

Me pretty much all game while Doris was spitting truth after truth.

She called for suspending the season soon after tip. By the time she got to advocating for hourly wage earners, she was well into her stump speech.

Me pretty much all evening.

Doris Burke tested positive for coronavirus.
