COVID Thread 2: Operation Ludicrous Speed ! (Super Political!!!)

Oh please. We are really going to do this? Fine; couple of bow shots.

1. Do you deny that the Dems Covid relief bill contained tons of spending totally unrelated to direct Covid Relief, Pubs wanted no part of?
Pubs were very interested in passing a COVID RELIEF BILL, to the tune of $500 billion, not $2.2 trillion. Dems refuse to budge.
2. Pubs wish to focus on clean air and water not limiting carbon emissions (Green Deal) that will tank our economy. They support the development of all forms of energies without subsidies. Not interested in aggressive
spending to do such inane things as "upgrade 4 million and 2 million homes" or promises such as "100% clean air economy and net zero emissions by 2050" with no plan to pay or implement it.
3. I won't even dignify your other "biases" with a response.
4. (Let's discuss "income equality". Thats one of my favs.)

Your a tax and spend lib. Great ideas (forgiving student debt) with no clue how you pay for it. Own it.

The only part of your second point that is correct is that the GOP don't want to regulate carbon. Everything else is wrong.

What’s worse, “tax and spend” or “cut taxes and spend anyway?”

Seems like Pubs these days are the ones with no plans to pay for anything, other than adding debt for their grandkids.

To be fair, they WANT to cut programs, but it’s incredibly unpopular to cut stuff that people like. So they just cut taxes and keep spending the same money.

Pop, what were some of the things “unrelated” to COVID that Dems wanted?

Here’s a list from some bullshit conservative group.

https://www.ntu.org/publications/de...-unrelated-spending-on-dozens-of-pet-projects

All of these are related to COVID and the easy to anticipate economic fall out. Republicans don’t want to pay to help people. They only want to pay to help themselves and their rich donors. Simple as that.

Yep.

They are grossly irresponsible, while claiming this mantle for Dems.

Unfortunately, it works as can be seen by the multitude of deluded people who believe Pubs are "better" for the economy, the deficit, etc.

People belief Republicans are better for the economy because Republicans keep saying it.

And? Why does trump need a special advisor for a fake pandemic?

There we go again. You’re convinced (finally) that the SOB is going to leave Office and now we’re going to spend the next 4 years obsessing what his influence will be. F Him; don’t give him the satisfaction.
Who cares who doesn’t want to take the vaccine. F them too. Everyone I know is waiting in line and can’t wait to get it in their arms. If you don’t want it, that’s your right; more for the rest of us.
If Biden issues a National mask mandate (which I doubt he will) you have the police issue summons based on their identification and handle it thru the IRS. $100 Fine, first time, $500 second. Won’t be the easiest thing to enforce but it will get everyone’s attention.
The best way to deal with Trumpism is to ignore the bastards. We dealt with it (barely) for 4 years because we had to.
That is no longer the case. Washington will still be a battle of ideologies but let’s hope Trumpism dies on the vine.

I'm sure having a Democratic POTUS issue a mask mandate and then ordering anti-maskers to be fined will work out well. "Won't be the easiest thing to enforce" is a gross understatement. But just keep pretending that all of this is just going to fade away.

That's a Republican idea of what a Democrat should do. Make a new law that Republicans disproportionate violate. Get police to enforce it. Punish people through the IRS. May as well throw in an abortion too.

The last major Democratic legislative accomplishment worked to make healthcare more accessible to everyone.

The last major Republican legislative accomplishment was a tax cut that primarily benefited the wealthy and corporations.

Which side is trying to help Americans?

Republicans care about tax cuts, sabotaging good government, destroying the environment, voter suppression, and packing the courts to make it all legal.

Democrats want to improve access to healthcare, protect the environment, address economic and racial injustice, voter empowerment, and strengthen good government.

Democrats passed covid relief in May.
Republicans ignore the challenges of the pandemic.

It is clear that one party is interested in helping America and one party wants to live in an alternate reality where the only thing that matters is making the liberals cry.

I wouldn't call it "good vs. evil" so much as sane vs. insane at this point. Of course I'm sure that conservatives will say that everything the past four years has been fine under Trump, and that somehow it all makes perfect sense.

+1. It's rich listening to Republicans call Democrats the "tax and spend" party when every GOP POTUS since Reagan has had record budget deficits, and their tax cuts (Reagan, Dubya, Trump) all ballooned the deficit to enormous proportions. Pops was just bragging about the tax cuts doing more than helping the wealthy, but never mentioned the deficit that has gone with it. Only Democrats spend like drunken sailors though, at least according to GOP mythology.

Pretty sure the biggest wave of panic is going to start this afternoon.

Watching numbers from the first few states roll in today, and it supports the notion that the holiday + weekend suppressed the reporting of data pretty significantly.

Now, we're going to see delayed case/hospitalization/death counts inflate numbers this week, followed by the actual surge/spike from the spread of the virus around Thanksgiving, by the weekend.

IMO, the next two weeks could be really, really grim.

TL;DR - buy all the toilet paper.

Baptist had a major surge in hospitalizations announced today.

Our hospital system is back to the peak of where we were in July. And the holiday crowd likely hasn’t been hospitalized yet.

My friend works pulmonary ICU at Duke and she’s just defeated at this point. Said it’s taking a major toll on her and her coworkers’ well being. I can’t imagine.
