Football Deacs in the NFL

Hot take: Wake will miss Perry more than Sam Hartman.
This brings up a good discussion. Both Hartman and Perry are top 3 players at their position in Wake history. Both can be easily replaced (Griffis, Banks) next year

Easily is a word doing a lot of lifting there. I don’t disagree that we have done well building a good succession plan at that position, but let’s not overreact.

Keyword was “can” and if banks or Griffis came in next year and dominated, no one would be surprised

The transition from college to the NFL leaves surprises.

Even (or should I say especially among) the most ardent WF football fans, nobody had Luke Masterson making a 53 man NFL active roster as a rookie. Not only did Masterson make the Raiders 53 man roster (not the practice squad), he ended up playing in all 17 LV Raiders games, was 6th on the team in tackles and led the team in tackles over the last month of the season.

Now, Blake Whiteheart may get drafted? Not sure anyone on this Board pegged Blake Whiteheart as NFL 2023 draft pick.

Hope AT has a legendary career. What a great Deac. Also great to see Blake showing out. Winston guy!

Steelers site interview with AT Perry. Feel free to skip down and ignore the Pickett talk.

TALE OF THE TAPE

Measured at the Shrine Bowl: 6-foot-3 3/8, 195 pounds, arms 33 3/4 inches, wingspan 82 5/8 inches, hands 9 1/4 inches.

A.T. PERRY SCOUTING REPORT

Mike Asti at the Shrine Bowl: Perry exuded confidence all throughout his time at the Shrine Bowl. Perry says he can play both big and small and constantly referred to himself as “just different” when asked what set himself apart from other wide receivers. He excelled at getting separation and catching contested passes during practice, but admits he needs to pick up his speed a bit.

WHERE WILL HE BE DRAFTED?

Perry seems to be a player whose stock has moved up and down a good bit. His current overall rank, according to the NFL Mock Draft Database, is 134th, which would have him available when the Steelers draft in the fourth round with pick 120. But his consensus mock draft position is going to the New York Giants at No. 57 in the second round.

One more offensive standout we have to mention is Wake Forest TE Blake Whiteheart. Whiteheart was phenomenal on Sunday, and he routed up several DBs in one-on-ones during Monday’s practice. He beat Bennett Williams with applied physicality, and he used his smooth athleticism and knowledge of leverage to beat both Tyreque Jones and A.J. Finley.
A.T. Perry had another phenomenal showing at the Shrine Bowl. He’s a Day 2-caliber prospect, and he’s looked to be a tier above his opponents all week. Against Kahlef Hailassie in one-on-ones, Perry pulled in an insane one-handed grab, twirling around and protecting the ball from the ground with his frame in a display of stellar body control.

Saturday Shrine Bowl Practice Report Headlined by Dante Stills and Kobie Turner

Kobie Turner from Wake Forest also impressed, using his leverage, compact frame, and quickness to win multiple one-on-one reps. He also showed he can multitask with his hands while flexing around blocks and reducing his surface area.

A.T. Perry was the star of the East Team’s Saturday practice. He’s as long as advertised, with a 6’3 3/8″ frame and near-34″ arms. But he’s truly exceptional at maximizing that length with his coordination and flexibility as a receiver, and he’s a nimble athlete and separator as well.

Was just coming to this thread to say that the reports I read from the Shrine Bowl were that Perry, Whiteheart and Turner had good practice weeks.

Maybe because he had AT Perry, Donnie Greene, Taylor Morin, Jahmal Banks and Ke'Shawn Williams at receiver.
