Jeff [Redacted] to Andy Katz -- "I'm coaching my tail off with this young group".

"This school has been through some bad situations," [Redacted] said Thursday as he prepared for a team workout. "The football program has gone through some things. We had to build back up the academic integrity, the APR, the competitive spirit. We had to create a culture that would be rock-solid.

"Yeah, last year, we won only one game, but we did that with only one senior and one junior," [Redacted] said. "Most of the time, we had three freshmen and a sophomore on the court. We weren't mature enough or experienced enough, and that's the truth."

August 2009: Andy Katz article on [Redacted]/Colorado.

The article I linked is what spurred the realization for me that WF (all sarcasm aside) has a man with a mild social disorder leading the basketball program.

Consider the context of the following quote. The article was written before Colorado's third year with [Redacted].... he was fresh off a 1-15 campaign in year two after a 3-13 record in his first CU season. The real kicker, however, is that the article started off with Katz asserting that Bz had gone after the Timberwolves job earlier that summer ('09) and didn't get it.

"I realized last year, when the Chicago Bulls called me and when Minnesota called me, that I know I can do better here," [Redacted] said. "I can't say I've taken a team to the Final Four, but I've been to the NBA playoffs nine times [as an assistant or head coach]. A lot of people can't say that, including some of the big names in college. I have an opportunity here. I'm committed to the players.

Anyone know our average margin of loss in road conference games?

After last years ass kicking by Clemson, an eight point loss this year will be interpreted as a victory under Wellman's new culture.

I guess that commitment was only for one more year. Jokes on us!

Oh, and didn't jaybone back in the day claim that [Redacted] stopped trying to get back into the NBA after the Nuggets shit-canned his ass?

jaybone wrong about a basketball topic again? NO WAI!

Making the NBA playoffs as an assistant coach is the definition of Buzzocrity. Considering that over half of the teams in the NBA make the playoffs and that he probably had less than 5% responsibility as an assistant.

The man is all ass. If he coached his ass off, he'd disappear.

Please resign on a high note of losing in the first round of the NIT

Two years ago, Utah was arguably the worst Big 6 team in college basketball history: they went 6-25, were ranked 297 in Pomeroy, and lost their regular season finale by 46. This year, they're 14-4, with all 4 losses by 3 or fewer points, and just beat #25 UCLA last night. They don't have much size (119th in effective height), experience (284th), or outside shooting (230th in 3FG%), but are top 30 in ppg and defensive efficiency, are ranked 51st in Pomeroy, and have only one senior, who plays just 15 mpg. That's how you "coach your tail off" to turn a team around.

I have never seen a major college coach who feels the need to pat himself on the back as much in the media as [Redacted].

Well the media's never going to do it for him, so he has too.
