London might not exist by the end of the week

Shouldn't there already be a fear that the shop owner has, say, a giant knife? I really doubt these people are calculating whether or not physical injury will result from busting the windows of a Foot Locker after hours.

Which is scarier to you?

listening to interviews with these kids is sickening. they're just doing stuff because they don't think anyone will stop them.

saw this quote on the interwebs as well:

"See, their morals, their code... it's a bad joke. Dropped at the first sign of trouble. They're only as good as the world allows them to be. I'll show you, when the chips are down, these... these civilized people will eat each other. See, I'm not a monster, I'm just ahead of the curve."

- The Joker

Ha, that was definitely NOT written by a chav. The abbrev errthin, y the can spell wrth a shite bruv.

Kurt Russell as Wyatt Earp, "Your friends might get me in a rush, but not before I make your head into a canoe."

Whoever is playing Ike Clanton, "He's not bluffing, he'll kill me."

Property owners don't have to shoot ALL the looters. They just need to shoot the first looter who threatens their family/home/business, and leave the body out front. Then the rest of the looters will leave them alone to continue their peaceful existence.

Again, a possibly unarmed guy getting shot to death is what prompted these riots in the first place. Some shopowner killing somebody will probably just escalate it beyond baseball bats.

You mean escalated beyond the homes, cars and businesses that were burned? Really?

Uh yeah. Killing people is a bigger deal than destroying things. I don't know why that's a controversial perspective to some people.

CNN said that the guy had a gun but it hadn't been fired, so he wasn't unarmed

Gotcha. So does that make him a hero to the pro-gun people? Or did he go out like a punk?

I don't really have an opinion on it to be honest, I am pro-gun (I guess) I was just pointing out that he did have a gun.

ETA: I bet it wasn't legally obtained either given England's stance on guns

Well that's just the European socialists restricting the freedom of the people.

No idea. I don't know if anyone knows exactly what happened to start this thing yet. First reports were that the guy was unarmed and basically completely innocent. Other stories said he fired shots. I think the somewhere in between is that he was carrying a firearm, but had not actually shot at the police.

Also, apparently there are photos of the guy wearing known gang colors/memorabilia? I haven't seen them, but I feel like that was posted somewhere on this thread.

It's hard to say what happened with the original shooting. Some gang member threatening the police with his firearm? Perhaps, I guess. I'm not sure it totally matters anymore. These riots have much more to do with the culture at large rather than the one shooting.

His family says he wasn't affiliated with any gangs, but they have witnesses and plenty of other people saying he was active with several different gangs and was well known in the London gang community.
