London might not exist by the end of the week

BREAKING: The Independent Police Complaints Commission has just announced that there is no evidence that Mark Duggan opened fire at police officers before he was shot dead, according to ballistic test results, reports the Press Association.

Whoops! Not that the original incident has much to do with what's going on now but that certainly won't help quiet things down.

Still no idea if Duggan actually had a gun or threatened police with it.

Or he was carrying a blank gun converted to shoot real bullets.

Still up in the air.

Not sure why the innocent bystanders would want to hand amidst the rioters at this point.

And LOL at them for not attempting more aggressive riot control prior to this point. Different mentality, I suppose, particularly when it comes to guns.

They're innocent bystanders. Sounds like you don't know when something's going to break out. If you're walking by a store and someone suddenly breaks in and starts stealing stuff, you shouldn't be a target.

The different police mentality/response over there definitely is fascinating. Seems like most of the UK public are now wishing they'd come out in force and given a more "American" response.

It's definitely sad to see so much private property destroyed because of this. Tons of innocent families losing homes and such.

I can't believe I just saw that. And people think Americans suck?

This wouldn't really happen like this in America because our violent youth are primarily associated with gangs, and street gangs are intensely loyal to their neighborhoods and families. They also tend to aim their violence towards other rival gangs.

It was a lot like this in London a century ago, and really until the last twenty years. That same mentality is where the football hooliganism movement really began. But now, these neighborhoods are no longer dominated by a single social class or occupational firms but by immigrants.

This is awfully near the Worrell House.

As looters and rioters smashed up shops, looted and fought with police in Camden Town, Philippa Morgan-Walker, 25 and her husband, Jonny Walker, 31, made tea for the police who were protecting their street. Some of the officers had been on duty for more than 30 hours.

Random attacks reported against people on the street and eating in restaurants.

This is a strong reason that I am a staunch proponent of gun ownership. Similar chaos could erupt within American communities; however, private citizens and business owners would at least have some capacity to defend themselves if they have firearms.

There's been 1 death in all this street chaos in London. 53 people died in L.A in '92 in similar situations.

The lack of guns on the street in this scenario has helped, not hurt.

If it's such a small number of people causing all this trouble, guns aren't necessary. Give every employee/volunteer a baseball bat and self police. The problem is not enough people are organizing. I've seen a group of Turkish business owners and a local mosque running protection, but that was about it.

Archaic. Let the police sort it out instead of citizen on citizen gunfights.

Yeah but if 10 of these punks busted into my shop and I'm aiming a shotgun at them the outcome is going to be a little different than what's happening right now.

"I hope you get a case of flaming diarrhea for the rest of your life."

hahahahaha. I'm stealing that.
