-got bored
-it was there
-didn't think you'd get discovered
-grass is always greener etc
-never into the other person in the first place, just there for the down and dirty but made the other person think you were to keep that pipeline open

I'm going to gently dispute this. There have been some epically Monte Christo revenge cheats.

If someone has treated you badly enough for you to get revenge by sleeping with someone else then the relationship was already over imo.
